Beaten. Battered. Broken.
Levi wasn't anything if not exhausted and bruised, blotches of skin slowly turning a bleak purple as she stumbled down a back alley in town, limping slightly to try and keep as much weight off her right foot. Exactly how she'd gotten there, she had no idea. The past few weeks were all a blurry haze, days mixing together, memories managing to confuse themselves seemingly effortlessly as her confused mind struggled to comprehend how she'd gone from trying to get home to where she was now, still trying to figure out exactly which part of Beacon Hills she was even in. Every alley looked almost identical to the one she was in, and so figuring it out from the environment was basically impossible.
She may as well be stranded in the middle of nowhere.
Her leg buckled underneath her as she took another step, which sent her crashing to the ground, where she stayed. She was unable to get up again, her broken body finally giving up on itself. Where she wasn't bruised she was cut and scratched, and where she wasn't bruised or scratched she just ached. Everything felt like it was on the verge of shutdown, and yet she somehow manage to find the energy to crawl to the edge of the alley before the rest of her gave out, her hand crashing against the wall behind her as she passed out, a mixed consequence of not eating in days and the beating she'd taken. If she were human, she'd definitely be dead by now, and, if someone didn't find her soon, she was fairly sure she'd be just another tragedy to read about in tomorrow's newspaper.

Skylar had been feeding her old habits, never stopping to think if maybe she actually wasn't okay because she knew that if she did, she'd have the wrong answer. With Levi missing, Skylar spent a good portion of her time texting and leaving messages for her, refusing to consider the idea that maybe Levi hadn't just run away. And then there was Jasper, who Skylar had no idea how to interact with now that everything was out in the open. He was obviously struggling enough on his own, and she could never tell is she was helping or hurting him.
But now wasn't the time to think about that. Now was the time to put on the shortest dress she could find, cake on the makeup, and go dancing. Then she'd inevitably end up in the bed of a stranger who was most likely way too old for her, but she never cared. Tonight she'd decided not to put too much alcohol in her system after judging the crowd and deciding that maybe she might spend the night in her own bed. She was wrong on that one, since she ended up leaving the club with a guy whose name she wasn't completely positive on. He kept muttering little compliments to her, which told Sky that he was drunk out of his mind, considering he kept mentioning her "lovely brown eyes" when Sky's eyes were definitely not brown.
She'd barely made it out of the club when she glanced down an alley to see a body crumpled up against one of the walls. Normally Sky wouldn't have thought anything of it. A homeless person or a junkie in an alley was nothing new, right? But this girl had a physicality that Skylar recognized. Levi. Skylar didn't stop to consider the fact that she was mistaken since she wasn't going to take the chance of just assuming she was so worried that she was imagining things. "Levi," she said to herself as she detached herself from the man she had been walking with and rushed over to the broken body.
A wave of relief rushed over Sky as she realized that it really was Levi, but it was only replaced by a bubbling fear in her stomach when she realized that she wasn't moving. Was she dead? Skylar placed her hand over Levi's heart and felt it beating. "Oh thank god," she whispered. She was just unconscious. But for Levi, a werewolf, to have gone through enough to knock her out meant that she had to be close to death. "Hey, come help he get her up, we need to get her help," she called at the man who was still standing on the sidewalk like an idiot. He immediately rushed over and picked Levi up as Sky pulled out her phone and dialed 911. One hand gripping her phone tightly, she reached out her other hand to hold Levi's. The lady on the phone told her that she was sending an ambulance to the club and that it would be there in a matter on minutes. But was that enough time?

Levi's awakening was rude, to say the least. She woke to the sound of engines and panicked voices, the constant drowning of the ambulance's siren enough to give her a horrible headache, even when she'd only been listening to it for less than a minute. Still, everything just felt hyper-sensitive, as if someone had just taken everything she was used to and could deal with and just kicked it up a notch, letting it increase until her version of normal just felt like hell. It was for this reason that, even when she did wake up, she didn't open her eyes, frail, bony fingers doing their best to squeeze Skylar's hand. Or, at least, she assumed it was Skylar - and the back of the ambulance definitely smelled faintly of her perfume... Not that Levi knew what the smelled like, honest... It was all she could really do to signal that she was actually alive and awake, even if she didn't have the energy to move or speak. Truth be told, she was starting to hit the stage where even breathing felt like a little too much work. After all, it'd be a lot easier to just shut off and let death grip her, and yet, for the first time in a long time, she came to the conclusion that she actually didn't want to die. Not yet, anyway.

Skylar got in the back of the ambulance and rode with Levi to the hospital. She tried to make herself feel calm, but nothing was working. She just wanted Levi to be okay, and it didn't occur to her until they were halfway to the hospital that she should probably call Jasper and let him know what was going on. She dialed his number and then told him that she was with Levi and that he should meet them at the hospital. "You're going to be okay, alright?" she said to Levi when she felt her squeeze her hand. Be strong, Skylar thought to herself. She wanted to just burst into tears, but she knew that she couldn't do that.
Skylar knew that once they got there they probably wouldn't let anyone see her unless they were related, so when they asked who she was, she told them she was her sister. The nurse then told her that they had to take her to surgery, not that they actually knew what was wrong with her. Skylar wasn't sure if surgery was the best idea for Levi, considering that her body wasn't, well, human, but Skylar didn't know what to do even if surgery was a bad idea. She decided it was better to just let them do their job. So she sat in the waiting room and waited for Jasper to get there.

Hours later, whatever the doctor's had done to Levi was over, and Sky and Jasper were finally allowed into her room. Exactly what they'd done to bring her round wasn't clear, although it was quite clear that it involved a lot of drugs, mixed with a quick dip into surgery, although exactly what they'd done? Well, only the doctors would really be able to tell. She came round to lights that were too bright and voices that felt so loud, even the quietest of whispers felt like shouts. Blinking rapidly, she forced herself to open her eyes and deal with the light, gaze quickly flickering around the room as she tried to figure out exactly what was going on, quickly noting how Jasper and Skylar were both in the room. For now, she didn't even bother to say anything, admittedly a little afraid of moving just in case it hurt, as everything already seemed to ache.

Once they had finished Levi's surgery, the nurses came out and told Sky and Jasper that they could go wait for Levi to wake up. Skylar still felt incredibly nervous, even if she knew that Levi would be okay now. She sat in the chair beside the hospital bed, fighting to make it seem like her whole body wasn't shaking. Looking at her without knowing what she'd been through, Skylar probably looked like a basket case. Her hair was spilling out of the once-perfect ponytail, and her makeup had run down her face from her frantic tears. Her legs were covered in dirt and blood from the alley, and one of her heels had broken somewhere during the whole ordeal, so she was barefoot now. But, for once, Skylar didn't care about her appearance.
Skylar's heart jumped a little when she noticed Levi's eye flicker open. She smiled at her the best she could, though her hands and knees were still trembling. "Hey," she said. She didn't know what she should say, but a hello seemed like a good place to start.

Levi didn't say anything at first, still taking her time to figure out what was actually going on before finally giving up, realising that no amount of staring confusedly at walls was going to help her understand. Instead, she shakily pulled herself up into a sitting position, eyes closing again briefly as she bit down on her bottom lip in an attempt to adjust to the amount of pain that came with moving. She'd get used to it eventually, probably. Shakily reaching for the drink someone had left on her bedside table, she took a long sip, honestly not sure if she still had the ability to talk, especially since her throat just felt dry. Putting the drink down, she finally replied, "hey." It wasn't much, and her voice shook about as much as her hands did, but it was still a start.
Jasper just stood lazily against the wall opposite Levi's bed. He'd wanted to pace, something he'd always done to calm his nerves, but the atmosphere in the rest of the hospital seemed to suggest that walking around in circles would do nothing but get him funny looks and raised eyebrows, something he'd never been a big fan of. And so he just stood, fingers restlessly banging against the wall. For now, he didn't even bother to say anything, knowing he should be playing the role of concerned big brother, but also knowing Levi wasn't exactly his biggest fan, and deciding she'd probably take any type of support or friendliness to be fake, or something equally bad.

Skylar was almost grinning now, though she could tell that Levi was still in a whole lot of pain. She was just happy to see her alive. "I guess 'how are you' would be a pretty shitty question, huh?" she said with a small laugh at the end. Skylar glanced over at Jasper, expecting him to make some attempt to acknowledge his sister, but she decided to just leave him be for now. Sky knew that Levi and Jasper's relationship was complicated, to say the least, so she never really knew what was considered normal between the two of them.
Then Sky noticed Levi's shaking hand, and she wrapped her own hands around one of Levi's instinctively. Physical comfort was always Sky's first instinct since she was never very good at talking people into feeling better. It didn't occur to her until a moment later that maybe she should be careful with the whole physical comfort thing when it came to Levi, since she had no idea where she stood with her, but she didn't pull her hand back just yet.

Levi just smiled at the touch, having no idea whether Skylar was just being nice or whether there was actually anything going on between them. She doubted the latter, after all, Sky had always been into Jasper and, last time she'd checked, nothing there had changed, right? Having said that, she couldn't help but grin, taking a moment before replying, "It would, but the answer is 'really shitty', in case you actually didn't know." It was at that point that Jasper finally actually walked across the room, hovering next to her bed awkwardly before taking the hand Sky hadn't, veins quickly turning black as he took some of the pain she was feeling away from her. He half expected her to be pissed, and so was kind of surprised when the next word out of her mouth was "thanks," quickly followed by a flash of a smile.
"No problem," Jasper replied, quickly dropping her hand again and stepping away, heading for the door. When he got there, he turned back to look at her, finally adding, "I'm going to get a drink, but we can talk later? I'm glad you're okay." With that, he left, although exactly why, he couldn't actually tell. From the looks of things, he was doing more harm than good by being there, and he almost felt like he was just disturbing Sky's and Levi's time together. But there was nothing going on there, right? Whatever. Jasper didn't care either way.

Skylar watched as Jasper left, then she turned back to Levi. "He's been worried sick about you," she said, feeling like Levi should probably know that, since Jasper would probably never admit it. She bit her lip before adding, "So have I." Skylar would never tell anyone how much time she'd spent worrying about Levi, but it was safe to say that it was a lot.
Skylar wanted to ask what had actually happened to her, but she decided that it could wait. Whatever it was, it was probably better to let Levi rest for a while before having to relive it. Though part of Sky wasn't sure if she really wanted to know. She was back, and she was alive, so that was all that mattered, right? Maybe she should just leave the rest to someone better suited to take care of it, like Jasper. But Skylar knew that her curiosity would get the better of her eventually, just not right now.

Levi just kept smiling, honestly not quite sure how she was supposed to react to that. Honestly, she didn't think that Jasper actually had the ability to worry about her, especially when they both seemed to spend as much time as possible avoiding talking just in case they ended up arguing. It seemed like they were both so scared of messing up and ending up arguing that they physically couldn't even have a relationship in the first place to let that happen. Oh well. They were both too used to it for things to change. She could still believe that Skylar worried about her, which was something she never thought would actually happen. "I, uh, I actually really missed you," she managed eventually, turning to look down at the floor as a blush painted her cheeks, something she was a little embarrassed about.

Skylar felt her face turn warm, though she wasn't completely sure why. She just hadn't thought that Levi thought about her that much, but obviously she was wrong. She bit her bottom lip a little, unsure of what she should say. "I'm just glad you're back," she said with a soft smile. "So don't go disappearing again, alright?" Skylar knew that it was possibly out of her control, but she figured that they could use a little comedic relief. Skylar glanced down at their hands for a moment, then she looked back up at Levi, still smiling. Her nervousness had faded now, and she just felt joyful now.

"I'll try not to," Levi replied with a laugh, admittedly a little more comfortable now that everything hurt a little less, even if she wasn't about to admit to Jasper that he was, in fact, kind of helpful in times like this. He always seemed to know what to do, and his tendency to shove all his feelings into a grave and cover them up tended to come in useful when you needed someone to just get on with things and not think about the consequences. Gaze lifting to look up at Skylar again, she dared to move her hands so their fingers were entwined, and then squeezed her hand lightly, admittedly a little curious as to how she'd react. Levi still had no idea where she stood with Sky, but that didn't mean she didn't want to find out. Besides, thinking about Sky was a nice way of stopping herself from dwelling on everything that just happened, as she already knew that if she did her mood would very quickly turn sour.

Skylar pursed her lips a little, but she was still smiling. "This is probably terrible timing," she started. "But, um, what does this mean?" She glanced at the now intertwined fingers, then back up at Levi. Skylar wasn't really sure what her feelings for Levi were. They were strong, that was for sure, but were they romantic? Skylar couldn't decide. She was still in love with Jasper, even if it was pretty obvious that her feelings meant nothing to him. But was it possible to feel that for two people at once? No, Skylar thought. That was wrong. But it was quite possible that Skylar's feelings for Jasper had faded, and she was just refusing to admit it to anyone, including herself.

"I was hoping you'd tell me," Levi replied quietly, gaze flickering from the hands and back up to Skylar's face again, admittedly a little nervous. Honestly, she'd expected Sky to pull away immediately, or, or something. She clearly still loved Jasper, and probably always would. After all, Jasper was actually quite a good guy, as long as you ignored the fact that he'd probably killed more people then you could count on your fingers, and he could easily do it again without regret, as long as he thought it was for a good reason. And he'd never really done anything to Sky other than be oblivious, but that was just who he was, right? She had no reason to ever fall out of love with him, and yet Levi couldn't help but hope that she was reason enough. But, who was she thinking? She'd never quite be enough for someone like Skylar, and she'd just have to learn to accept it.
