It was mid morning, about 10-ish, and Iris was on her way home from her morning run. It was a Saturday, and she'd prefer to be sleeping right now like most people in Beacon Hills, but waking up early was something she just did, so why not try and make the most of it? It was quiet and peaceful, which was unusual but nice, and she had her ear phones in which meant she was fairly oblivious to the world around her. The main thing on her mind was a shower. It was getting to be a hot day already, and while Iris didn't look sweaty she was dying for a cold shower and change of clothes, and just to relax for the rest of the day, really.

Jasper wasn't a particularly good morning person. In fact, if his morning didn't consist of rolling out of bed late and rushing to get ready on time, meanwhile snapping at anyone that dared to bother him until he got his morning coffee, he considered it a morning gone wrong. And yet, despite that, Jasper had decided to go for a run. He'd had a horrible night's sleep the night before and had ended up tossing and turning, and so when time to get up finally came around, he didn't really care. He just wanted to get up and doing something to dive the restless night from his mind and, if that meant running, that's what he would do. He hadn't actually expected anyone else to be out at this time - definitely none from his neighborhood- and yet he was about to be hit with his second disappointment of the day (the first being a distinct lack of his morning coffee). Iris, AKA Grumpy, was running down the road in front of him. He could just run the other way, he knew that. Hell, she wasn't even running remotely close to where he lived; there was no reason for him to go over... And yet he did anyway. Slowing his pace as he caught up with her, he jogged beside her as he slowled drawled, "oh hey look, Grumpy became Stinky - guess you're not a dwarf after all."

As steps caught up to the girl she turned down her music so she could hear what was going on, but didn't speed up yet. She wasn't exactly worried, but everyone knew that the town wasn't necessarily the safest place, and even though she was probably as far from the woody area of town as you could get she was still on edge. But when the person spoke, and the semi familiar voice made it's way past her music, Iris both jumped and felt a sense of relieve run through her. It took less then a second to regain her normal composer and roll her eyes at his remark. "That's a pretty good insult actually. You nearly made me think you had the mental age of a 7 year old. Nearly." With that she shook her head and speed up a little, wondering if that was enough to make him back off.

Jasper matched her pace easily, smug smile painting itself onto his face as he merely grinned at her, letting the pair of them run in silence for a few minutes before finally interrupting, "you realise you're a lot easier to get a long with when you don't talk, right? I mean, those last two minutes we're literally bliss,I really think we have something." His voice was dripped in a jokey sarcasm and it was obvious he was already regretting his decision to talk to her. He really wasn't in the mood, and lately his short temper was getting the better of him more and more, no matter how much he wanted to deny it. Talking to Iris was definitely the worst plan for the shitty morning he'd been having so far, and yet right now he didn't care; she was easy to wind up, and he thought it was kind of funny. Surely that was worth it?

When he was quiet Iris could pretend he wasn't there, so she didn't actually mind when he fell silent and just ran next to her. But when he broke the silence again she sighed "That just so happens to be the case with you. If i'm such bad company when i am talking, though, why don't you just go away?" She asked, looking at him for a moment longer before looking away again.

"Hmm... Maybe I just like the attention," he mused in reply, catching her gaze as she looked at him, even bothering to flash his signature smile before she looked away, cleared more interested in the run than him. Oh well. He could fix that... Probably. Continuing to keep pace with her, he was almost tempted to ask for a race, but only because he was fairly sure that, if it came down to it, he'd definitely win. However, he also felt like if he challenged her to a race she'd only say no, and he didn't particularly enjoy rejection.

Iris just made a noise of annoyance, not sure how to reply to him and deciding she wouldn't even bother. If she was quiet then hopefully he'd go away? Every time she hoped that it never seemed to work, but there was always a first time for everything. She eyed the corner that was coming up, and while it meant it was slightly longer to get home it didn't seem to be the route he was taking, so she speed up again and went round the corner, leaving him behind her.

Jasper just watched her speed up, honestly not sure whether to catch up or not. On one hand, he was fairly sure she'd continue to get really annoyed if he kept running with her, and for some reason he found that kind of funny. On the other hand, however, he wasn't sure how much more of her attitude he could really endure before the entertainment value wore off and he ended up stuck with someone he didn't like in a neighborhood he'd probably only ever driven through once for a party. Still, he sped up and caught up with her, taking the increased pace with ease. "Why do I feel like you're just trying to get me to go away?" he asked, feeling like he already knew the answer. He had nothing better to do than spend his day winding Iris up and so that's what he was going to do, even if she ended up hating him for it.

Honestly, Iris just wanted to scream at him now. She was doing her best to keep calm and not yell, but he was really bugging her and she was pretty sure he knew it. "This might come as a shock- but it might be because i am" she just couldn't think of anything that would make him leave her alone, a part from possibly completely snapping at him, but even that could be an excuse to him just to annoy her more. Until she got home, she couldn't think of a way out of this.

"You mean you don't love my company?" Jasper drawled in reply, voice painted in sarcasm as he thought for a minute, coming to the conclusion that if he tried to wind her up any longer she'd probably explode and then punch him or something crazy. Jasper didn't want to get punched - he didn't suit injuries like black eyes... Not that it'd take that long to heal. After a pause,he finally gave in, "alright, how about this? We race and, if you win, I'll leave you alone. If I win, we actually try to get on with each other?" he suggested, even though he was fairly sure that he'd win anyway. He was naturally athletic and, when you threw in the whole werewolf thing, it was kinda guaranteed he'd come out on top... Not that Iris needed to know that. Besides, he was so bored that he was actually considering throwing the race so she won, and then they could both go home and pretend they didn't know each other.

Iris looked over at him, really considering his idea. She knew she shouldn't even be considering it but she couldn't help doing so. He was obviously way more athletic then her, but she knew she was pretty fast. So why not? Some times you had to take chances, and even if she did lose they weren't far from her house so she wouldn't have to pretend for long. "Fine" She replied after a moment thinking it over.

"Okay, where are we running to?" Jasper asked, slowing slightly as he looked around. He didn't really know the neighborhood they were in very well, if at all. It wasn't really one of those places that he liked to frequent, admittedly a little worried that he'd get jumped by some scratty little fourteen year old that thought they were hard just because they were aware of the existence of knives. It wasn't the knife he was afraid of, or the kid, it was just the idea of them both together that he just couldn't be bothered with. Silently, he begged for her to pick somewhere he knew, otherwise he was so screwed.

Iris slowed with him, trying to think of a good place to run too. She wasn't sure how well Jasper knew this area, and while she'd love to see him get lost somewhere he didn't know, she couldn't be bothered with it today. That would just mean she'd have to help him get back to somewhere he knew, which would mean spending more time with him which was something she did not want to do. She looked at him once she'd come up with a suggestion "The police station?" It wasn't too far and Iris knew a short cut which could come in handy, if he agreed on the location.

"In a curious turn of events, I actually know where that is." Jasper just grinned at Iris, knowing he probably didn't need to explain the ins and outs of why he knew the place. It was mainly just because of things like house parties that had gotten slightly out of hand - apparently throwing lit fireworks out of attic windows wasn't a good idea whilst drunk at three in the morning - or silly things like breaking and entering and vandalism. "Okay, so I'll meet you there," he offered her a quick wink before beginning to run, going just about fast enough so that it didn't seem like he was trying too hard or like he was anything other than a normal human being. It was still pretty fast, but not quite as fast as he could managed if he had to.

"Good" Iris said in reply, actually letting a hint of a smile slips onto her face. Running was something she enjoyed and did regularly, so even though he seemed more athletic and more likely to win, she knew she had at least a small chance. "Okay" She only just had time to reply before he'd left, leaving her behind him and him with an obviously unfair advantage. She clenched her jaw, shook her head then set of running, just about catching up with him quickly. She made sure she stayed a bit behind for now though, so she could slip into her short cut without him following.
