Skylar had been sitting in her room all day, wondering when she was going to hear from Jasper about the little gift she left on the side of his house. But it was almost five and she'd gotten nothing. Maybe he didn't think it was her. Maybe he just didn't care. Either way, she didn't feel like sitting around and hating him anymore, since he was really the only person who she actually wanted to talk to at the point in time.
Skylar got up and grabbed her phone off of her dresser and dialed Jasper's number. She let it ring and ring, but then he didn't pick up. It was unusual for Jasper. He rarely ignored her calls. Was he giving her the silent treatment? She didn't understand. But she left a message anyways. "Um, hey Jasper," she started. "I was just wondering how you were...I haven't seen you since the party so I was just...just call me back, okay?" Skylar suddenly felt extremely nervous, unsure of what was going on with Jasper. He was never one to get too mad about petty things, so it felt like maybe there was more going on.

Ignoring Sky's call was a whole new low for Jasper, not that he'd ever really admit to it. He'd become good at blocking people out when he had to, although it wasn't usually Skylar that got horribly affected by it. Still, things hadn't exactly been easy between the pair of them, and Jasper wasn't quite sure what he'd done wrong other than disappear for a few weeks. Did that deserve to have his house graffiti'd on? He wasn't even that bothered about it, Winston had arranged for someone to clean it off before his mum even found out. Everything was totally fine or, as totally fine as it was going to be between him and his mum.
Finally bothering to listen to the message, Jasper rolled his eyes before stuffing his phone in his pocket, grabbing his keys and a jacket and heading outside. He didn't bother to take the car (or ask Winston to drive him, anyway) because Sky only really lived down the road. Besides, he didn't want to tell Winston where he was going, knowing the old British fool was determined he and Sky were dating. It didn't take long to get there, and soon Jasper was knocking at her door, one hand stuffed in his back pockets as his gaze focused on the ground, mentally preparing for the bollocking he was most likely going to get.

After staring at her phone for a solid thirty minutes waiting for Jasper to call back, she gave up and ended up going downstairs and watching Netflix. She'd gotten really into her cheesy chick flick when someone knocked at the door. Skylar had no idea who would be at the door, unless her mother's boyfriend had decided to show up without warning. Skylar paused her movie and went to answer the door. She felt her stomach twist a bit at the person standing in front of her. "Jasper," she said, obviously surprised. "Um hi..." She looked down at the ground for a moment before looking back at Jasper, unsure of what else she could do or say.
Then she realized that standing in the doorway when it was hot as hell outside probably wasn't the best idea. "Oh, come in," she said, stepping out of the way so Jasper could walk past her.

Slipping inside quickly, Jasper even bothered to throw a relived smile Sky's way as he entered the hallway, not quite sure what to say or do. He knew he should probably apologise for leaving without warning but, at the same time, he didn't want to. Was it really his fault he had to go? No, and it definitely wasn't his responsibility to explain to Sky every single time he had to go somewhere or see someone other than her. It's not like they were in a relationship - he didn't owe her anything. Turning to look at her, he leaned his back against the banister of the stairs before finally speaking. "I'm not sure if you want me to apologise or what, but I figured I may as well come over and try to figure it out before you spray crap all over my house again." It was blunt and it was rude, but he really wasn't in the mood for anything else. In truth, he already regretted coming over.

Closing the door behind him, Skylar pursed her lips, honestly feeling bad for painting on his house now. But there was still part of her that felt he deserved it. And it was obvious that he still hadn't gotten the message. "I was just trying to make a point," she said quietly, knowing that it was a shit explanation. She just thought that maybe he might stop and think for a second and actually understand what was really going on inside Sky's head. After all, she refused to just talk to Jasper because what good would that do? It was clear that he didn't have any feelings for her whatsoever, so telling him about her feelings would just make her seem like a lovesick schoolgirl.

"And what point was that?" Jasper asked, folding his arms now, almost as if he actually had something to get defensive over, as if he thought he'd actually done something. Honestly, he wasn't quite sure what was more confusing or stressful, the fact that Sky was clearly pissed off at something, or the fact that this was yet another time where someone he knew was on the border or pressing the self destruct button and he couldn't even find it within himself to give a shit - too concerned about his own problems to even bother thinking of other people's.
"Was it because I left or something?" he finally asked, deciding he may as well at least try and understand, "or can you just not get over the fact that I don't tell you every intimate detail of my life? Because, if it is, here's a newsflash for you - I don't tell anyone anything, because nothing ever happens. Now stop pretending that I'm going to breakdown like Levi does and spill my soul. I'm not that weak." He pursed his lips, knowing that he was being overly harsh for no reason other than he could, and it was most likely that he'd pay the price for it later. How she'd react, he didn't actually know, but right now he couldn't actually figure out whether he cared.

Skylar's eyebrows furrowed, confused about what he was talking about. She didn't even know that he had left in the first place. "What?" she said. "No, I didn't do it because you left. I did it because..." Skylar couldn't bring herself to actually say it. She wanted Jasper to know, but saying it herself felt impossible. Why couldn't she say it? Because she was afraid. Terrified, even. She was afraid of getting hurt more than she already was by Jasper, and she didn't want to ruin the only true friendship she'd ever actually had. But it felt like not telling him was going to tear them apart too. So what did she have to lose?
"I did it because I love you, you asshole," she said, her voice shaking. "I've fucking loved you for years and you've been completely oblivious, so, I don't know...I thought maybe if I put that painting right in your face you might stop thinking about yourself for five seconds and realize how much you're hurting me." Skylar's heart was practically beating out of her chest, and she was terrified of how Jasper would react.

Jasper just stared, honestly having no idea how to respond to what Sky had just said. She loved him? No. That made no sense at all. She couldn't - he would've noticed, wouldn't he? Surely it would've been obvious, but maybe he was just blind... It wouldn't be the first time he'd denied someone else's feelings in favor of his own. Eventually, he managed to pull himself out of whatever the hell it was that had left him paralyzed, furrowing his brow as he tried to figure out how to reply, clearly too shocked to know how to reply.
"You love me? You love me, and to show just how much you loved me you spray painted my house?" he raised one eyebrow at her, uncrossing his arms as he took a step towards her, quickly adding, "because that's clearly how you show someone you love them - you wreck their house." His voice was dripped in sarcasm, mouth pulled into a frown as he tried to figure out if she was bullshitting or not. The worst part was that she was clearly nervous, he could he her heart beating a lot faster and louder than his own, but that could just be over the anxiety of telling him and not lying. Honestly, he was just confused and pissed off, and a confession of love was not something he needed right now.

Skylar laughed a little at herself, embarrassed. "I never have been very good at the whole emotion thing," she said quietly, still not looking up at Jasper. "I'm sorry. I really am." Skylar felt unbelievably guilty, not only for spray painting Jasper's house, but for loving him. She felt like she was burdening him by doing so, which would have seemed foolish to anyone other than Sky. But it wasn't like he made it very easy to love him either. "Look, I'm not expecting us to run off into the sunset now or anything, but I couldn't go on without telling you anymore. Now we can just go back to our normal lives and act like nothing ever happened." That was all Sky really wanted now. If Jasper didn't love her back, the least she could ask was for them to go back to normal.

"It's alright, I'm not either." Jasper shrugged his shoulders, knowing that wasn't the most comforting thing to say but trying anyway. Hell, if Skylar was the kind of person that 'wasn't good at the whole emotion thing', what did that make him? Practically emotionless. He still had no idea how to respond. Did he accept her apology? Was this even the kind of thing that you had to apologise for? Jasper didn't know - this wasn't the situation he'd ever really been stuck in. He didn't really like people. Finally, he figured out how to reply. "And, just for the record, it's fine - I don't care. It's just - it's kind of a shit time to tell me, is all." He offered her a reassuring smile, not quite sure about whether he was helping the situation or not.

Well, there it was. Skylar felt utterly disappointed, though she wasn't completely sure why. It wasn't like she expected Jasper to really love her back, did she? But there was a part of her that thought maybe, just maybe, he might have been so oblivious to her feelings that he didn't realize his own as well. But obviously that wasn't the case, and that was what hurt most of all.
Skylar finally looked back up at him, though she looked puzzled. "Why's that?" she asked, not seeing why telling him now would be different from telling him any other time. Was there something else going on? She felt like a bit of a hypocrite now, lecturing Jasper on only worrying about his own feelings when she hadn't stopped to think about his either.

Jasper didn't say anything, or, at least, not at first. He didn't know what to tell her, in all honesty, and he wasn't sure if he was really ready to let go of everything that he'd let build up over the past few months... Hell, past few weeks, even. Part of him didn't want to say anything, deciding it'd be okay as long as it all stayed in his head, but the other knew that even he couldn't keep it up there that much longer. Sure, Jasper wasn't the type to show any feelings, but that didn't mean he didn't actually have them. Offering a cheeky grin, he finally replied, "make me a coffee and I'll tell you."

Skylar sighed, then stood up and went into the kitchen. "Did something happen or...?" she asked, honestly concerned about Jasper. Sure, she loved him, and she might have still been a bit pissed off at him, but he was still her best friend. She wasn't going to let anything change that. She waited for the coffee to finish brewing and then she grabbed two splatter-painted mugs out of the cabinet. (Skylar's mom had a thing for splatter paint.) Then she poured the coffee into the mugs and fixed them up the way they both liked them. "Here," she said, handing him the mug.

"Thanks," Jasper replied with a smile, moving through to the sitting room and taking a seat, holding the cup in his hands like it was the most important thing in the universe. He didn't even want it really, but he figured it'd buy him enough time to figure his own head out... It hadn't. With a sigh, he waited for her to sit down too, knowing that she probably wouldn't want to be stood up for half the things he was going to say to her. He wasn't even sure where to start, but he guess he'd just see what ended up slipping from his mouth first.

Skylar followed Jasper and sat down in the chair across from him. He was obviously struggling with something, so Skylar made a mental note to hold off as much sarcasm as she could and try to help him. Sipping her coffee quietly, she looked between Jasper and the floor, waiting patiently for him to begin his story, or whatever he needed to say. She wasn't sure if she was prepared for whatever he was going to tell her, but if something was trouble Jasper this much, it had to be important. He wouldn't have told her otherwise. But for now, she'd just give him time to work it all out in his head.
