cousin • jensen, 18, werewolf (beta) overall history • ashton was born in richardson, texas, a town just outside of houston, into a well-established pack that his father was the alpha of. he’d grown up in a large house on a preserve that the pack owned. it was a grand stretch of land that protected their privacy during their shifts. they were docile, gone undetected for they never strayed from their land in the wake of the full moon. while he was raised among werewolves at home, he attended public schools and grew to know the human race intimately. at three, he discovered his love for music. he’d sing along with the radio, slapping his cousin’s arm to the beat of a song playing through the speakers. jensen had been born a month to the day after ashton and they were instant best friends. where ashton was wild, jensen was mellow. they complimentated each other extremely well. his uncle, benny, lived on the pack grounds with them until him and his cousin, jensen, reached six. benny and jensen moved to beacon hills with his aunt because she had family there she wanted to reconnect with. ashton and his parents made a trip to the california town once a year in the summer. it was during this trip when he was seven that he met blake, who was born a werewolf due to his absent father’s genes. after pinning the boy to the ground after he had caught blake bullying jensen, the two became instant best friends. once they got cellphones, they kept in touch while ashton was in texas. blake had been welcomed into the california branch of the pines’ pack at thirteen when the boy first shifted–for born wolves do not turn at the moon until they’ve hit puberty. the pines explained all the ways of the supernatural to the boy who had no clue how to handle such things. without jensen or blake in texas, ashton found friends in a group of wolf-boys who were a part of the pack–chad, michael, and ryan. the four of them were known to cause havoc around the sanctuary, but it was never dangerous so they weren’t called out on it. at ten, ashton convinced all of them to swing from a rope and jump into a lake on the property. chad got across fine, ryan too, but when michael attempted to, the branch holding the rope snapped and michael fell from the height and broke his arm. had they not been werewolves, it could have been more serious. ashton was scolded, but like hell that stopped the group from performing similar stunts. at the age of twelve, he met murphy through blake. murphy seemed enamored with the idea of ashton, blake had described the kid in a way that struck interest in him. he liked the power ashton held and didn’t hesitate to join his ranks. he had his father turn him at fourteen because murphy had been deathly ill–it was to save his life. he became one of ashton’s closer friends after that, but they still butt heads often due to murphy's personality. ashton had met sabrina, a purebred wolf, when he was nine. she had been friends with jensen in class, but he rarely got along with the girl–despite this, she was a part of their pack. he called her ‘bri’, saying he couldn’t be bothered with saying her full name. at fifteen, the pair had a falling out. he had been intoxicated, a drink spiked with wolfsbane blurring his judgement, when he cornered her and kissed her. she lashed out and they fought. this was the catalyst to her leaving the pack, but it was clear that there were other reasons and this was just the excuse given. at fourteen, ashton lost his virginity with a human girl. it was downhill from there. between legs and faces between his own, he’d found pleasure in his sexual prowess. being a boy, this had not been frowned upon by his parents, but they did not agree with his approaches. he always shared the dirty details after the deed was done–jensen hated listening, blake lived for it. ashton never brought a girl home. he didn’t do girlfriends. however, he did do boxing. it was his chosen sport, his chosen release. he was undefeated, even now. he’d dabbled in football, baseball, and even swimming, but nothing quite made his heart race like being allowed to punch the daylights out of someone and be cheered on for it. when he was seventeen, he was in the state championship match. he won the title, his parents lost their lives in a car wreck on the way to watch him. it was horrific. they were dead before they even had a chance to heal. the next full moon, ashton’s eyes were red. he’d inherited the alpha reign as well as his family’s fortune. as well as being pack leaders, his parents had run a successful cattle business as a guise for the pack's sanctuary. he was shipped to beacon hills to finish his junior year of high school. he was passed into his alcoholic uncle’s care because his pack believed the change in scenery would help him heal best. his youngest uncle stepped into the role of temporary alpha in texas despite not being the true alpha and business runner, promising the spot to ashton upon his return. uncle benny’s wife had left him four years prior, but he hadn’t returned to the pack in texas. he hadn’t wanted to displace his son. they lived in a large cabin on the outskirts of the preserve. it was a sanctuary away from prying eyes, where the wolves were safe. uprooted from all he knew and struggling to cope with the guilt of his parents’ deaths, ashton roamed his new home with bitterness in his heart while adapting to his new role as the alpha of the pack. he was set to be destructive, and he planned to be when he met erin and then iris. when he’d met countless other girls in the town. but when he laid eyes on jade, the world stopped. she was too kind, too pure. he was hooked. jade was who he needed, erin was who he wanted. erin had been a fluke. his locker happened to be next to hers and they were in the same first period. he was quick to bother her, finding her pretty and sassy and he was intrigued. they swapped quips back and forth throughout the period and slowly found their footing with one another. not friends, not enemies. some weird spot in between. he met iris in the park, bantering with her for an hour or so before he headed home. it was on his drive back that he recognized her as jensen's old friend, but hadn't realized it at the time because he hadn't heard about her in so long. on a whim, he’d gone to the mall a week or so later. there he ran into the human roadblock, jade. his heart beat in his chest, loud and echoing in his ears. this girl was different, he just knew. be it intellect, werewolf senses, or just fucking physic powers, but he knew he needed her. they’d flirted and goofed around until erin made an appearance. twins. god, wasn’t that just a wet dream come true. after paying for lunch and rooting himself in jade’s heart, he’d left with her number. quickly, ashton had made a mess of things. when he kissed erin at the halloween party, he hadn’t been dating jade, but the two had been flirting for months. erin and ashton fought from then on, never to touch each other again as he grew closer to jade. after jensen had brought her home from the mall, the girl was over at the pines cabin often. ashton would sit beside her, arm over her shoulder, but he didn’t do more. he knew jensen took note, but nothing was ever said. he liked jade. he liked erin. he didn’t know what he was doing anymore. blake moved in just before christmas after a fall out with his mother. it was long overdue. after his meltdown on winter break, ashton asked jade out. he took her out to dinner at sal’s before bringing her to a little karaoke bar he was able to sneak them into. he didn’t drink, didn’t want to be drunk around her. he wanted to remember every moment. he got up on stage and sang his heart out, winking at her and dancing in place to the song as he serenaded jade. he convinced her to get up and do a duet with him. when the bar owner took a closer look at the pair and realized they were underage, he chased them out. ashton pulled jade to his jeep and sped of. in the late hours of the night, he parked in a field just shy of the preserve. he laid out a fleece blanket on the ground, dropping pillows to the fabric before guiding her to lay down next to him. he pulled her close, arm around her shoulder as he pointed his other hand to the sky. he traced the constellations, explaining the stories behind each. when he was young, his mother had spent nights under the sky with him, filling his mind with a wealth of astronomy. ashton had the strength to look at the stars since they passed, not until he had jade tucked up against him. he dropped her off just after midnight, kissing her passionately on the lips before he left. he’d never done that before. he wanted jade, but something held him back. he didn’t know what that meant, but it scared him. a week after their first date, as erin crowded against ashton’s side on his bed as they worked on a chemistry project, the two made a fatal mistake. erin, the ever spiteful being she was, let her jealousy spill from her lips and onto ashton’s. a heated kiss turned tumble in his forest green sheets, they’d committed a cardinal sin. and while guilty, they failed to register the regret. on the following full moon, ashton cornered erin with teeth bared and eyes red. it was just another secret they shared. jade was innocent. she was soft, supple skin and round eyes. erin was temptation. she was rough, curved edges and piercing stares. twins. total opposites. his. ashton was greedy. he was only able to move at jade’s pace because he was between her sister’s thighs after their dates. pretending he was holding erin’s hand as he pulled jade into sal’s. pretending he was carving himself a home in jade’s warmth while gripping erin’s hips. he needed them both, the balance they offered. jade was home. erin was sanctuary. in february, murphy followed blake’s lead and moved in. it made his affair more difficult to pursue, for murphy paid much closer attention than blake and jensen was purposefully oblivious, but they thrived on the rush of danger–almost as if they craved the idea of being caught. sabrina returned to the pack shortly after. ashton hadn’t been asked to apologize, but he did. he had been young and dumb, but he knew the worth of the ones he loved now. he had a family once more. he had so much to lose again. the tides slowly began to shift. jade offered herself to ashton after six months of dating and he hesitated. if he had this piece of her, he didn’t need erin. but he did. god, he did. guilt bloomed in his chest as he laid alongside jade’s naked, slumbering form. he loved her, he knew it then. love had been something he thought he was immune to, but he wasn’t. he loved jade, had for a long time, but he couldn’t say it to her. he’d destroyed her in more ways than she could bear. but he was in too deep with her sister to stop. it was tearing him apart inside, but they were a drug he couldn’t quit. he spent his days with jade, bright smiles and proud declarations. he spent his nights with erin, secret touches and stolen whispers. it worked. until it didn’t. at the start of their senior year, after jade and ashton had been together for nine months, the rogue pack struck. an officer was killed, and then a student. erin and ashton had been disguising their study sessions for plotting a counterattack on this pack. for once, they were working together. they wanted to keep jade safe. oh, the irony. jade went out on her own, and had it not been for sabrina, she would have died. but she didn’t. ashton, at eighteen, in september of 2018, waited in the lobby of the beacon hills hospital with two of his pack mates while his girlfriend and his lover received punishment from their parents. the realization was suffocating. he cared for erin. in their sick, twisted affair, he’d grown to confide in her. but he was using her, a barrier from the raw emotion he felt for her twin. there, in that waiting room, he realized he needed to find a way out without losing the girl he loved–without crushing the girl he’d grown to feel for. seeing jade on that bed made things clear. no matter how erin made him feel, his heart had decided where his greed couldn’t. he had to find a way out of this without destroying them all. ashton had a mess to clean. the visuals
