Why Lottie's dad had insisted on renting a film she did not understand. It was 2014 after all, any film in this shop was on the internet where you could get it for free- or even just buying the dvd would make more sense then renting. But apparently she had no say in the matter, and had been made to go out and rent the film they wanted. Since the whole thing with finding the dead body last time she was out in the evening by herself she was very on edge, but once she got to the rental shop she breathed a sigh of relief, glad she'd actually got to her destination this time. She'd quickly got what she was after and was back out of the shop, tucking it into her bag. She looked up just in time to see someone but not in time to move out of the way, so there shoulders knocked together "Sorry"

Nate was picking up this week documentary, as he did every Friday night. It was a tradition that he'd been doing since middle school, and he'd never found anything better to do with his Friday nights. The only problem was that he'd been doing it for so long that he'd usually end up renting a film that he'd already seen, but he didn't really mind. He always picked up on things that he hadn't gotten the first time through.
He was on his way inside the store when he accidentally bumped into someone. "Sorry," he said quickly, then he realized that he knew the girl. He hadn't seen her since grade school, but she was one of the few friends he'd ever actually had. "Hey stranger," he said with a cheesy smile, honestly happy to see her.

Lottie nodded at the guys apology, ignoring the vaguely familiar tint in his voice as she went to step around him, her eyes quickly flickering to the floor before she could realise who the guy was. But when he spoke again she was made to look up, and came face to face with someone she'd hardly seen in years. Seeing how he'd grown and how he still had the same grin couldn't help but bring a flicker of a smile to her lips, but she pushed it away quickly. She promised herself years ago that she wasn't going to make friends with anyone unless it was completely necessary. "Hi" She said, tucking a piece of hair behind her ear as she glanced between him and the floor.

Nate was a little confused by how closed off she was, but he might have just been overthinking. "How've you been?" he asked, honestly curious. Nate was one of those people who didn't just ask questions to keep a conversation going. He actually wanted to know the answer to his question. He just hoped that she wouldn't be totally weirded out and not answer.

"I've been... fine. Fine" Lottie told him, not sure why she'd struggled with the question. It was just something about having a childhood friend right there, she guessed. It was like she had a false sense of trust just because she'd last really spoken to him when she still thought she could trust anyone and everyone. Now, though, she knew she couldn't, so shook off the thoughts as she looked back at him "You?"

Nate shrugged. "I've been okay," he said. "High school is sucky, but that's what it's supposed to be, right?" Nate was still smiling, trying his best not to be awkward. He was a generally friendly person, but he was also horribly clumsy and awkward at times, so he had a habit of making a fool of himself. But he'd always been that way, so it probably didn't surprise Lottie.

"I guess" Lottie said with a shrug. She didn't find high school particularly bad or anything, but it defiantly could be better, so she kind of knew what he was on about. She wished neither of them found it sucky, teenage years were supposed to be the best time of your life weren't they? It didn't matter, really, as they weren't and there wasn't much she could do about it. Shoving her hands in her pockets she gave him an awkward smile, not sure what to say now.
