"New year, new me." Skylar stared intensely into the reflection of her own glassy blue eyes in her bedroom mirror. Her surroundings were unorganized, but not nearly as messy as they normally would have been. Her walls were still plastered with sketches and paintings and photos, but at least the floor wasn't covered in dirty clothes anymore. Skylar thrived in chaos, and her room had always been a reflection of that. She liked that her space mirrored her personality. It was the one place in the world that was completely hers, and she took advantage of that.
However, today she had spent the entire day making her house as clean as possible for her annual back-to-school house party. This year was different though, as it would be the last party of the kind that she would ever be able to throw. It was senior year, and Skylar was determined to make the best of it. She had spent her entire summer traveling with her mom and her soon-to-be stepdad, and she felt that she had finally found herself in a happy place. Things were going to be different this year, and she had made a promise to herself to do everything in her power to make her life better this year. So far, she had been nothing but successful. But things hadn't quite kicked into gear yet, so there was still plenty of time for things to go wrong.
As she stood and examined herself in the mirror, she brushed away a few stray hairs and applied her signature red lipstick. Perfect. She looked perfect. Hopefully she wouldn't be the only one that thought so (though she rarely ever was). She exited her room into the living room where she made sure her house was empty. She never exactly told her mother that she was having a party, but the two of them had a sort of secret agreement that as long as the house was cleaned up and no one was arrested, she was allowed to do whatever she wanted when she had the house to herself. So when her mother planned a weekend getaway for her and Trevor, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to throw the best party ever.
Skylar had told people that the party would start at six, and as the hour hand on the giant clock hanging above the fireplace came closer and closer to that lovely little number, Skylar could hardly contain her excitement. It was unusual for Skylar to get so excited about things, but she was different now. Not entirely, but enough that anyone who knew her before would probably notice a difference. Though the number of people in that category was particularly small now, there were still a few.
The doorbell rang signalling the arrival of Skylar's first group of guests. It was time. Let's get this party started.

Louly was a frequent crasher of high school parties. Technically, at eighteen, she wasn't much of an outsider. Nobody batted an eye when she came strolling in with her tightest cropped tank top and cuffed indigo skinny jeans, looking breezy and natural amongst kids who's gotten their chance at a normal teenage life. As a drop-out who'd left home at fourteen and soon after became a hunter, she was surprised by her own ability to fit in.
Mostly, she credited that to alcohol. She tried to go out often, ever since wolf attacks had begun threatening Beacon Hills. It was always smart to have someone patrolling the less traveled streets, but on nights like this, would putting off patrol for a few drinks really do any harm? She hoped not. Louly headed up the stoop that lead to a door, following close behind a gaggle of giggling girls dressed to the nines, carrying a poorly concealed flask that was letting off a nose-melting smell. Louly wrinkled her tiny nose and followed them in; the party was just now beginning. The crowd was small but building in intensity quickly.
Louly took a deep breath as she stepped into the noise-filled home, ears tuning into every individual sound, amplifying every buzz and clink and laugh like it was right against her ear. She blinked several times, standing in the doorway and earning a few grumbles from people in a hurry to get inside. "Shit." She said shortly, half-turning to address the latest person she'd blocked from coming inside. While she'd been dealing with the ultra sensitive hearing and other newly discovered banshee abilities for close to a month, it still felt like she was running straight into a brick wall every time she entered a crowded room. She rubbed her hand over her loosely braided hair. "I'm so sorry," She hoped the person would pass it off as pre-party "fun" hitting her system.

Life had changed quite a lot for Iris Weata over the past few months. First, she had found herself with only one real friend left in Beacon Hills, Rose, feeling lonely and more or less unwanted, but then all of a sudden the tables switched. She had found herself with a boyfriend who was kind to her and who always made her feel wanted and safe- completely different to how she had been feeling months this ago. Though Jensen she had found even more people she could call friends- Ashton, Jade, even Erin. On top of that she still had Rose, and she was still friends with people like Lottie and all of her friends, then there was also Leon, who she knew through Rose. Life was looking up for Iris. She was even getting excited for college now, an excuse to pack up and move away from beacon hills. She had so many memories assosiated with the small place, both good and bad, that it would be good for her to leave.
All of a sudden, even Sky had popped up out of nowhere again. Iris knew that every year Sky had one of these big parties, but Iris had never actually been to one. But there was a first time for everything. She wasn't actually sure who else would be turning up to the party, but she figured it was worth going- she could always go back home if she wasn't enjoying herself. Her main reason for going was actually to see Sky. It was no secret that the girls didn't get on, they never had and probably never would, but Iris had still been wondering how she was, what she'd been up to. So, she'd got all dressed up, done her make up nicely and headed on over to Skylars house.
Once she got there she grabbed a drink and glanced around, trying to figure out if there was anyone there that she spoke too. After walking around for a little while she noticed Sky and made her way over, smiling as she did so. "Hey" was all she said, suddenly not too sure what to say when she was actually there.

The house became increasingly packed with more and more people, many of which Sky had never seen before. She wasn't entirely sure what to make of this. Were they were because they knew who she was? Or were they just looking for a party to go to? She supposed that it didn't particularly matter. Sky used to be a part of the popular crowd, but she didn't consider herself to be someone that everyone knew or even wanted to know. However, she did find some happiness in the fact there were people that still knew her name, regardless of what they thought of her. Her past was messy and filled with rumors, but there was nothing that she could do about that. She was focused on making her future better rather than trying to fix her past.
Surprisingly, Skylar found herself standing up against the wall by herself while everyone around her was socializing. A wallflower at her own party. Or at least she was until she spotted Iris. The two girls had never exactly been friends, but Skylar had already decided that she wanted to put all of their problems behind them, pending Iris would do the same. After all, it was Skylar that had caused most of the tension between them in the first place. She was jealous. Skylar had spent years of her life watching Jasper go through girls like they didn't matter to him, and she had been convinced that eventually he would wise up and see that she was the girl who he really wanted. But that wasn't what happened. Iris got what she had always wanted. But it took Jasper finding Iris for Skylar to realize that he wasn't what she really wanted. He was still her best friend, and he always would be, but Skylar knew that it was time to move on from him.
And that meant that it was time to make amends with Iris. She wasn't sure if Iris and Jasper still had any sort of relationship as Jasper usually avoided talking about her with Sky, but whether they did or not, Skylar still owed her an apology. Or, at the very least, she would stop being such a megabitch to her. "Hi," Skylar said, smiling politely at her. She felt slightly awkward talking to her like this after being hostile to her for so long. "How have you been? I feel like I haven't seen anyone in so long." That was true. The only person that she had bothered to stay in contact with while she was travelling was Jasper, and that was because he didn't give her much of a choice. She had no idea what had happened while she was away, or if anything noteworthy had happened at all.

If there was any scene that Pierce would always feel at home in, it was at a party. However, lately there hadn't been many for him to attend. For some reason the teens in Beacon Hills were having a particularly uneventful summer as far as he was aware. But, to be fair, there was a good chance that plenty had happened that he didn't know about. When he caught word of Sky's return from wherever she had been all summer, he begged Alfie to accompany him to her back-to-school "gathering". Pierce wasn't in high school anymore, or any school for that matter, but he still had plenty of friends who were, so he assumed that it would be okay if he went. He had been spending so much time with Alfie lately that he had hardly spent any time with anyone else. But no matter how hard he tried (and he tried everything), Alfie would not budge on his fierce opposition to attending a "high school party". There was a time where the two of them would have gone to these parties without a second thought, and they were always the life of the party. But they had both matured a lot, and while they both still had their fair share of bad habits, they had manged to keep things generally under control in their lives.
But at least Alfie agreed to let Pierce fly solo. He felt bad leaving him at home alone while he went out, but Pierce hadn't had a proper night out in forever. He felt like he deserved some good fun with his friends.
As he approached Skylar's house, he ran a lazy hand through his freshly dyed flaming red hair. A small sense of anxiety lurked in the back of his mind for some reason, and he couldn't quite pinpoint what it was. Was he nervous about seeing his friends? Of course not. Pierce was always such a relaxed person, and his random bouts of anxiety would always come at the most unexpected times. He never had any explanation for them, but they weren't at all pleasant. He had never talked to anyone about them, mostly because he didn't think that they were a real issue. He just had to push through it. After all, he had already shown up at the party. There was no backing out now.
The party was just getting started when he arrived, but it appeared that he had managed to be late enough to bypass the awkward beginnings of the party. He preferred it that way. Even though he was a big party person, he had little skill in starting parties himself. As he entered the party, he could feel the beat of the music thumping in his chest. It took his ears a second to adjust, filtering out just enough of the music to be able to enjoy it but also be able to hear the voices of the people around him. It was no surprise to him that Skylar liked her music loud. Everything about the girl was loud.
The crowd of people attempting to enter the small doorway was rather large, and none of them seemed to understand the concept of waiting their turn, so they all just piled up on the porch. After waiting for what had to have been a good number of minutes, Pierce finally manged to make it to the door before he realized what the hold up was. There was someone standing right in the way. She looked lost. She was a young blonde woman, but not as young as the rest of the crowd, Pierce guessed. She seemed more mature somehow. Pierce felt a weird sort of connection with her. Not a romantic connection, of course, but he found himself feeling a sense of pity for her. The way that she looked around with a strong sense of confusion in her eyes was particularly familiar to him. He had experienced it himself as a young boy, and he had witnessed all of his younger siblings going through the same process. However, he did not see how this woman could possibly be a werewolf. There were only two alphas in Beacon Hills, as far as Pierce was aware, and neither of them seemed particularly interested in new recruits. No, this girl couldn't have been experiencing the whirlwind of newly heightened senses. But what was happening to her then? He couldn't tell. Maybe she was just drunk already.
When she bumped into him, he couldn't help but chuckle at her. "Hey there," he said, extending both of his hands in case she were to fall over. "A little early to be getting tipsy, huh?" Pierce was sure that this was just another drunk teenage girl looking to party, but he was still just slightly curious that maybe it was something else.

Oh, how Louly hated those trance-like states. She could slip in and out of them, and it would be like no time passed to her. Catatonia, she'd read, was the medical term for it. They'd been happening sporadically since she'd figured out her abilities to some extent, but there were times she would slip away. Just like now.
It wasn't until something bumped into her and stayed put that she was shaken out of it. Her vision returned, and she found herself staring at a kind-eyed boy with firetruck red hair. She looked down at his outstretched hands, then back up at his eyes, just catching the end of his question. "Tipsy? Oh, no. That's half the fun of the party." She said with a smirk; she was not the best at coming back from these spells and coming up with excuses to any onlookers. They normally always left her with a look of concern or a tiny frown and a crinkle in their forehead.
This boy seemed a little bit less like that type. "Sorry." A full-on smile, but a slightly wobbly one, "looks like I've pulled a few too many all-nighters this week." 'Smooth,' She thought, 'and not technically a lie! You did stay up all night, but it was patrolling the woods and cleaning your guns.'
"I like your hair." She said, trying to shift topics.

She wasn't sure why, but Iris felt like something had changed with Sky between now and the last time she'd seen her. She couldn't put a finger on what it was, but she just didn't feel as awkward or scrutinised as she usually would in Sky's presence- she wasn't sure if it was the setting they were meeting in, or if Sky was just a little bit drunk already, which made her not hate Iris as much as usual. Obviously, there was still an awkward cloud hovering over the pair, they'd never been great friends, and Iris had decided they probably never would be a long time ago, but as usual Iris was willing to make an effort with Sky if she'd make n effort with her.
"Same," Iris started, she'd seen hardly anyone from the group she shared with Sky recently "but i've been pretty good. Kind of bored with no one around, but you know. What about you? You were travelling, right?" She asked. The only reason Iris knew the Sky had been travelling was because of random photos she'd seen on social media every now and again.

"Ah," was all that Pierce could think of to reply with. He didn't need to listen to her heartbeat to know that she was lying, but he decided not to call her out on it. Instead, he just gave her a cocky smirk that told her he knew, but he wasn't going to make her explain herself. Pushing a stranger into revealing something that she obviously wanted to keep secret didn't seem like the best way to make a first impression.
So he let it go, and she seemed to do the same. She changed the subject to his hair, something that he very much enjoyed talking about. "Thanks," he said, flashing his charming, surprisingly white, smile at her. "It's kind of my thing." Without his hair color, Pierce would normally come off as a pretty normal teenage boy. But he was really just a giant piece of punk trash and he had no shame in that. He was in a band and everything. In fact, his band had just barely started to take off. A few of their songs were being played on local radio stations, and they were being scouted by a few smaller record labels. Pierce was sure that they were going to make it big soon, but until then, he was just another emo kid with dyed hair.
As much as he loved talking about his hair, he knew that if he went on about it for too long, the girl was sure to lose interest. He offered up another topic of conversation just in case. "So, you know Sky?" He wasn't sure if this was the sort of party that people just showed up to without knowing the host, but knowing Sky, it probably was. The two of them weren't very close, but she'd spent plenty of time around her during his time with Mason. Now that he thought about he, he had no idea if he was on good terms with Sky since what happened with Mason. Lia hated him, and Sky was her best friend, but he didn't know what she thought about the whole thing. He didn't know a lot about Sky's relationships, but something told him that she wouldn't judge him for falling for another person while he was with Mason. But who could say?

"Yeah?" She replied, smile widening after he flashed a toothy grin of his own. "Well it suits you. And I...sort of know Sky?" Another not-quite-lie. Louly knew enough of her to recognize her almost immediately. She had befriended a few other high school seniors while at the public library, inconspicuously scuffling through the mythology section to try and find some insight on exactly what she should expect of her 'abilities.' "Friend of a friend," She elaborated with a roll of her eyes. While he seemed like a genuine guy, his response to her catatonia was a little unsettling. He seemed too okay with her strangeness. "I heard 'party,' and here I am." She admitted. She enjoyed a little bit of the normal sort of trouble occasionally.

Skylar nodded gently as Iris spoke to indicate that she was listening to her. No one was around? Skylar had no idea what anyone had been up to, but apparently she wasn't the only person who had disappeared. She didn't put too much thought into it, instead choosing just to carry on with the conversation. "Oh yeah, I've been everywhere. My mom and her fiance decided they didn't want to do a normal honeymoon, so we all decided to just take a backpacking trip and see where we ended up. You wouldn't believe some of the stories I've picked up." Skylar scanned her memory and tried to pick one to tell her just to prove her point. They had been so many places in the past three months, Skylar could barely keep track. She made sure to write everything in a journal every night so that she wouldn't forget anything. She was horrible at keeping up with it, but she forced herself to do it just for the trip. Now that she was back home, her chances of actually keeping up with it were slim to none.
"One night we ended up having to sleep in the airport in Las Vegas," she started, choosing one of the milder tales of the summer. "And this airport is nuts. Like if you didn't know what time it was, you would have figured it was the middle of the day when it was actually four in the morning. So I had fallen asleep, but at about three or four, some guy decided to just start screaming the lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody so loud next to me that I nearly screamed when I woke up. So I'm assuming that everyone else is going to think that this guy is crazy because who in their right mind would just randomly start singing at the top of their lungs in the middle of the night in a crowded airport? But no, everyone around me just started singing right along with him. The entire airport was just filled with sleepy, singing, drunk people. It was so great." Skylar laughed at herself, but then gave Iris an almost nervous look, hopeful that Iris would find her story as amusing as she did. Maybe it was just one of those things that you had to be there to understand. Skylar had a habit of telling those kinds of stories.

"Thats sweet" Iris said when Sky told her about the backpacking holiday she'd been on with her mum and step dad. Iris always wished her parents would be a bit more spontaneous and take her on trips like the one Sky was explaining, but it never happened. Her parents loved normality too much, but Iris had promised herself that she would take herself on some kind of road trip one day and see what happened along the way.
Iris couldn't help but laugh at the story Sky told her. Sure, it probably would have been funnier if Iris had been there, but it was still a great story, and Iris could only hope to experience something like that one day. She had no crazy travel stories yet, but she'd also never been to somewhere like Vagas, which was one of the few place you could imagine something like that happening. "That Actually sounds amazing. Did you join in?" Iris asked, grinning at the girl. She realised then, that she was actually smiling at Skylar, and it didn't feel forced at all, and that was a pretty weird feeling. Was this an actual friendship happening? Iris didn't want to push her luck, but she hoped it was. She'd never really had anything against Sky, so she hoped they could finally be friends. She took another sip from her drink, the spoke again "where else did you go? It sounds like you had a great time" Iris had mostly stayed in Beacon Hills during the summer, other then one trip out of state to visit her grandparents. She didn't have any crazy stories from that.

Pierce liked this girl. She seemed like the sort of girl that he would have partied with back home. No. Beacon Hills was his home now. Vegas was just a place where he grew up. Regardless, this girl was interesting. Pierce always had a thing for befriending interesting people.
"Yeah, me too," he said. "I told myself that I would never end up at another high school party, yet here I am. Sky's cool though. She knows how to keep a party interesting." Pierce remembered a time when Sky had thrown a party last year. She and Jasper somehow managed to get everyone so drunk that were able to start an indoor water balloon fight. By the end of it, everyone and everything in her house was soaking wet, and Pierce imagined that cleaning that up must have been awful. But even so, it was one of the best parties he had ever been to, so he would say it was worth it.
It occurred to Pierce a moment later that he was still talking to this girl, and he never bothered to learn her name. This happened to him more and more recently with the popularity of his band skyrocketing. He would find himself talking to strangers who liked his music, and they would never feel the need to introduce themselves since they already knew who he was. "I'm Pierce, by the way," he said. He didn't want to be too presumptuous and assume that she already knew him because while his band was taking off, they still had a very specific audience, and he couldn't tell if this girl was the type of person who would listen to their music or not. "And you are?"

Louly nodded occasionally to show that she was giving him her (mostly) full attention. She smiled at his mention of high school parties, as she understood that feeling herself. However, this party didn't seem quite so "ordinary." The scene was a little bit more experienced than typical high school parties that smelled like cheap booze and hormones. She only spoke when he asked for her name, but a look of brief shock passed across her face. "You're from...God, I know who you are. Duh. Youre from that one band. Color me ditsy for not realizing that sooner. Anyway, my name's Louly...but you can call me Lou. Nicknames wholeheartedly welcome. My name is horrific." She said through laughter. Louly had no trouble with her abilities once she was settled into conversation. It was any other time she couldn't handle. Silence drove her mad.
She ran her hand over the top of her newly dyed brown hair; it had been only a few days since she's given up her flirty blonde locks for something that better suited her.
