Iris was by no means a domestic goddess. Biology was her thing, not baking (okay, that was a lie, she was more of a physics girl, but she didn't think that flowed as well), but some how Rose had convinced her to give it a shot. Really, all Iris was doing was passing Rose things like ingredients and bowls or spoons, since she was the one who actually seemed to know what she was doing when it came to this kind of stuff. All they were doing was making cupcakes, something that Iris probably could manage, but Rose was a bit of a perfectionist when it came to her bakes, so Iris didn't want to get in her way (honestly- give Rose a wooden spoon and she was actually quite scary). One thing Iris was excited for, though, was icing. She was a sucker for pretty things, especially when those pretty things were pink, or really any other icing colour, and she knew could ice a cupcake pretty damn nicely, even if she did say so herself.
Alas, they were still only at the ingredient mixing stage, the counter of Rose's kitchen covered with spilt flour, or maybe that was sugar, while the oven was preheating to the right temperature. Rose was stirring the mixture, and Iris watched it getting smoother and smoother as she blabbered away about who knows what. In the last few months Iris, had become a lot more content- nothing supernatural had really been happening, and she was pretty sure she was getting over Jasper, and Rose seemed to be in a similar position. She wasn't completely sure, though, so it would have to be something she'd ask about later. "How are you so good at baking? It's just, like, a foreign ritual to me or something" Iris sighed. This would not be the first time she'd tried Rose's baked goods before, and every time she tried something Rose had made she just wished she had some kind of skill in the baking department.

Rose knew that when she'd invited Iris around with the intention of baking it was a bit of a long shot but she'd promised the girl lots of sweet icing and that seemed to do the trick. So here they were, stood in Rose's kitchen as Rose mixed their cupcake batter together singing along to the radio and talking to Iris about random stuff that she'd read or overheard. They'd made a bit of a mess so far but honestly Rose always did so it was natural for her to be covered in flour and bits of batter by the end of a bake.
"How am I so good?" Rose repeated with a laugh, stilling her stirring for a second to give her arm a break. "I guess I just learnt from my grandma, she was always baking when I was younger and I just picked it up from her." Rose said this all with a small, nostalgic smile. Her grandma had died a couple of months ago and her granddad had since moved into an old people's home. Rose missed the pair of them but she knew it was probably for the best. The oven light clicked off then, signalling that the oven was hot. "I think I've mixed this to oblivion by now, you wanna pour the mixture into the cupcake cases?" Rose asked before adding, "you think you can handle that?" With a cheeky laugh and grin.

Iris couldn't help but grin at Rose's explanation. She knew that Rose's grandma had died somewhat recently, but it was nice to hear the girl be able to talk about her with such fondness. All of iris' grandparents were alive, but lived in different states, so she didn't get to see them so much. She saw her grandparents on her mums side more often the ones on her dads side, but it was still only a couple of times a year, so her grandma didn't tend to waste time baking with Iris, she preferred just baking before she arrived, then feeding her cake as soon as she got to her house. That was probably the main reason that she couldn't bake. Obviously she did bits with her mum when she was younger, and knew the basics, but she was no expert.
"That's cute" Iris said with a smile, before rolling her eyes at the other girls next comment "Yeah, i think i can just about manage it" she did, shooting Rose a jokey glare before beginning to out the mixture into the cases she'd sorted out earlier. Sure, it was a little bit messy, there was a little bit of spiliage, but Iris thought she'd done a pretty good job.

Rose stepped back and watched with a small smirk as Iris poured the mixture into the cases, "wow, you mastered that skill pretty quickly!" Rose joked as she began collecting up all the ingredients they'd used and put them away in the dubbed baking cupboard. Coming to stand by Iris once she'd put everything they didn't need again away, Rose nodded as she took in the work Iris had done. "I think you're ready to go pro, you ready to put them in the oven?" The oven had heated long ago and they would have put them in sooner if they'd stayed focus instead of talking about random shit.
(This is so short ohmygod)

Iris laughed and rolled her eyes "I'm not completely useless y'know" She said as she scooped out the last of the cake mix and placed it in a random cupcake case which seemed to have the least mix in it. She put the empty bowl to one side, the looked back at Rose. "Golly! You think lil' old me is ready for such a task? I don't know, Rose..." Iris said in frankly an awful fake accent that was meant to be mimicking one of those stereotypical dumb country bums, or whatever. Iris had never been very good at anything like acting, so she quickly burst into giggling.

“Oh, I know, I know, you’re good at many thing - maybe not baking though.” Rose teased as she leant against the kitchen counter, lazily watching Iris in the way you study your best friend, in an adoring way whilst also being prepared to call them out on something if they mess up. Not the Iris ever really messed up, that was more Rose’s forte. “You may also not be very good at acting,” Rose told her around laughter as she took in Iris attempt at an accent. “That was, wow, terrible.” It was a good thing Iris had brains because it was obvious that a career in the performing arts was maybe not where she was destined.
