Being back home was something Jensen had always looked forward to. Ever since his parents divorced back when he was twelve (more so because his dad was the local drunk and had conspiracy theories a mile wide than any loss of love between them), he had been bounced back and forth between their homes. Summers were spent at his mother's fancy new house farther north in California, just off the beach- and occasionally a holiday, but for the rest of the year he was holed up in his father's cabin just off the main road in Beacon Hills, nestled up against the persevere. Most people believed it was due to avid hunting, that they sought out serenity in those woods- if they only knew that down the branches of the Pines family tree werewolf blooded the roots, making the forest a sanctuary under their paws rather than a need to avoid civilization. For the most part, he'd gone vaguely unnoticed in the small town. Had high grades in school, played baseball rather than lacrosse, and kept his head down- so very unlike the cousin who'd been taken into his home. Ashton flirted his way through school, conning his teachers with a bat of the eye to raise his grades, fought in the boxing ring, and sought out attention in every way possible. It's why they made such a great team, even if most of the time he ended up taking the blame while his cousin snickered from the sidelines. Conniving little brat, but he always found his way back by Ashton's side, always eager to go on some new adventure.
Family was important to Jensen. After having his own torn apart, he leaned more heavily on his relatives in Texas, always urging time to speed up so the next visit would come just a bit faster.
So when news hit home that his aunt and uncle were dead, he really didn't know what to do. What could he do? He'd been trapped at his mother's, with her unwilling to let him return home to help welcome Ashton after all he'd been through- and maybe he resented her a little bit for that. Now, though, he was home and he'd spent the past week tangled with his cousin. Ashton denied the ache, refused to even acknowledge their loss- but Jensen knew, knew all too well that he was crumbling- just refusing to share the burden. As always. Which resulted him lashing out- never a good thing. He did the best he could, relaying to old knowledge on how to make the boy feel better. It worked, for the most part. He'd devoted most of his time to his cousin, knowing that the divorce had effected him deeply, but he couldn't imagine truly losing one- let alone both.
Enough about Ashton, though. This is Jensen's story.
Not much to tell. He'd grown up in his own world, always cautious with his werewolf status in a town stocked with hunters. Family came first, everything else was just blurred in the background. Serious demeanor, gentle heart, and not a hint of awkwardness- even if he had a tendency to remain silent to let Ashton do the talking. When he wasn't around to be his voice, though, he managed to do just fine on his own. Eyes as green as the leaves he'd grown up climbing through, cheekbones prominent, and his shoulders broad. All in all, he was nearly identically to Ashton, just with darker hair and a different attitude- their fathers were the same, the genes rather strong.
The weekend had finally crawled along, and Ashton had finally had enough of Jensen's constant clinging (he was just trying to assure the kid was okay, honestly)- which meant that he was forced out of the house and into actual society.
Clubbing was not his thing. The video store was dead. The park would be crowded with the afternoon rush of single parents and dog walkers. Bowling was no fun alone, and he was an absolute klutz on the ice- so the mall it was. With no real destination in mind, Jensen tucked his hands into the pockets of his jeans, boots clicking against the tiled flooring as he weaved his way through the crowd. He figured he would stop by Barnes and Nobles, maybe grab a book or two, then to the cheap video shop downstairs to buy a movie for him and Ashton to watch once his cousin actually lets him back inside.
Glancing up just in time, he watched as one person ran into another, knocking whatever it was in the person's hand into the ground- not even bothering to stop and help, just carrying on as if they'd done nothing at all. Scoffing at the retreating being, he shuffled over quickly, kneeling down to help scoop up what had been dropped. Stooped down the way he was, the collar of his maroon shirt hunt low, revealing a hint of his collar bone. Finger scrambling to help, he let his eyes find the victim's, lips curving in a shy grin as he spoke softly, "Are you okay? That was just ridiculous."

For someone who hated the mall and shopping in general, Jade sure went there a lot. Okay, not a lot but more than she was used to. Today though it was to begin the monumental task of Christmas shopping, quite possibly her least favourite time of the year. Why? Great question. Firstly there was the non-stop music all of which featured jangling bells and people warbling on about snow and romance in the snow and every other thing under the sun, in the snow. Secondly there was this issue, the gift giving mainly because it involved shopping but also because it meant coming up with ideas as to what to get people. This year though with no firm friends at her new school, Jade only had to shop for her sister and their parents. Was she forgetting someone? No... or at least she was going to stick to the fact that she wasn't.
What to get for her sister, her twin, her other half, the one person in the world she could trust above everything else? Uh, just thinking about traipsing through store after store was giving the poor girl a headache. She should really look into online shopping but frankly Jade knew what would happen, she'd start looking at some webpage selling this trinket or that smelly thing and within five minutes (2 minutes was probably more realistic, but hey ho) she'd have been distracted by something more interesting like oh, you know, dress up games for 5 year olds because why can't an 18 year old girl enjoy that?
Her parents and what to get them was slightly more simple, her dad would probably be happy with socks and chocolate, her mum with some new romance novel. Sure, they may be more interested in finding out about the supernatural and cutting them up into buts to do that, but they were normal people, too. Even if they didn't want those kind of presents it was a bit too late now, Jade had bought them in one go around Target.Actually, as Jade glanced down at the plastic bag it didn't make her feel too happy. With a sigh, Jade headed back in, hoping Target would do returns. Ten minutes later and after having a short argument as to why she was returning things she'd bought mere minutes before, Jade was heading to one of those perfume stores full of colored bottles and a variety of smells that all after a while smell the same.
On the way there though she was distracted by a jewelry store. Right there in the shop window was a silver chain, a red piece of glass with veins of black running through it in the shape attached to it. Eyes flicking to the price, Jade winced slightly at the price, that would be most of her money gone. The look on Erin's face would be worth it though, right? Then again next to it was a silver locket, the locket piece in the shape of a 5-pointed star. Jade was torn between the two, she was sure Erin would like both, at the end of the day though money beat her heart and she bought the locket.
In a small bag, Jade balanced it in her hand. The box the locket was nestled in was light in her hands and it was as Jade was going to loop the bag's handles around her fingers that someone collided into her. What was it with people in this town walking into each other? The bag was on the floor but Jade had to say something before whoever had hit her walked away without hearing her say, "you little shit, that was expensive!" Oh god, what if it was broken? Bending down to pick it up, Jade was a moment too slow, someone else was there, helping. Huh. The box of the necklace had slid out of the bag, along with the complementary small bag of chocolate they'd thrown in for good measure. Jade had been looking forward to eating those chocolate buttons on her walk around the shops. Crouching down, Jade's hand went to the chocolate before it was trampled on.
That was when she made eye contact with the boy before her, she was startled, hands tightening around the chocolate. "As- no, you're not Ashton. Who are you?" They looked so similar, it was unnerving. "I'm okay." Jade added after a moment. Standing up, Jade accepted the bag from definitely-not-Ashton and took a step back to look at him more.

Huh? That is… extremely odd. Jensen’s eyes widen slightly at her accusation, confused for a moment even though he was used to being mistaken for his cousin. The thing was, he’d never even seen this girl before, and he knew everyone here. He didn’t have a choice in the matter, friendly community and all always curious about his drunk father’s shenanigans. So how had Ashton already made his rounds on the girls around town and he could barely get his missed work from his teachers? She didn’t seem upset when she’d said his cousin’s name, though, so he hoped that whatever impression Ashton had made wouldn’t squander his chances at getting to know the new girl a bit better. He figured he wouldn’t have to apologize for his family’s actions, this time at least. Squinting at her for just a moment, his voice was unsure, as if trying to console a spooked animal, “No. I’m not Ashton,” he brushed his hands off on his pants before rising, towering over the girl by a good five inches. He gaze grew skeptical as she took a step back- so okay, maybe Ashton had done something wrong. Great
“Jensen,” he finally said, figuring he should explain, “Ashton is my cousin, and just in case- I apologize on behalf of his actions, had he done something wrong, which is common, the last time he’d talked to you. He’s kind of an idiot, so.” He shrugged, not quite sure what else to say. Dropping his gaze for a moment, he glanced at the bag, lips quirking into a concerned frown as he gestured vaguely at it and asked, “Did that break? You’d said it was expensive- do I need to go hunt the guy down and beat him up for you?” His eyes rose to meet hers, a teasing smirk on his lips as he tried to lighten her mood just a bit- even if it was by juvenile joking.

Had Jade overreacted a little bit at their similarity? Probably. In fact, most likely... she did do that it went along with her slight lack of impulse control when it came to biting her tongue and saying the right thing at the right time. That was for sure, he wasn't Ashton, they had to be related though. Looking up at him, Jade felt small across from him and she wasn't even particularly short, she and Erin were the same height, about average and that was fine with her. It meant that she was taller than most people who were younger than her but she could still wear high heels if she wanted to.
"Jade," she replied quickly before listening to what ever his link with Ashton was, she was particularly curious after all. "Oh, you're cousins. You look really similar, you know that?" Of course he knew that, this probably happened to him a fair deal. "He didn't do anything wrong... yet." Should she say thanks for the warning or not, eventually deciding that saying thanks was too big a commitment, Jade dropped that thread conversation.
Oh, the bag, she'd forgotten about it. Pulling out the box, Jade was really hoping that it wasn't broken (because it had been expensive, y'know?) then again seeing Jensen beat someone up had its own appeal. Opening the lid, Jade released a breath of relief, the chain had loosened off of it's base but that was likely to happen anyway during the day but that was it, other than that it was fine. "Sorry to disappoint but you can't be a valiant knight today." Jade laughed as she slipped the box back into the bag. "So, are you from around here?" Being new and all she couldn't distinguish long time local and new visitor and since Ashton was from the south, maybe he was too.

Jade. He rolled the name around in his head for a moment before conjuring up the briefest of mentions of a girl named Jade. Something about an annoying sister, mall, burritos- he didn't know, he rarely paid attention when Ashton started yapping on about girls. When it came to that kid? Yeah, he'd rather stay in the dark than listen to his escapades. He internally shivered, horrified as he recalled a few of the too detailed stories about older women and naive girls. Jensen loved his cousin to death- heck, he was currently wasting his time here just to please the guy- but his thing with plowing through girls really didn't set well with him. In Jensen's book, women were to be respected, his momma taught him that, it was just something Ashton couldn't quite grasp.
Maybe one day he'd learn his lesson. Too many people got hurt when going down a path like his.
Shaking out of his thoughts, his eyes found the girl's once more, a soft smile on his lips as he nodded, "Yeah, we get it a lot. Guess our dads got real strong genes, ya know? Neither of us look much like our mommas." He shut up then, eyes cast down as they watered slightly. He hadn't spoken about his aunt and uncle's death aloud yet, and didn't really want to have to explain it to this girl. That aside, who knows what Ashton would do to him if he spilled the beans- that was information he'd want to keep under wraps, and tell himself if he dared too. He'd rather not have his hide skinned, so he stashed his emotions away and forced out a bark of a laugh, "Yet being the key word. He's a bit troublesome. I try to keep him in line, but it don't work much." He ran a hand through his short hair, a hint of a blush tinting his cheeks in embarrassment- he just couldn't shut up. A blabber mouth when put under pressure.
Throwing a fake pout just for dramatics, he sighed, "Was really looking forward to putting some punk into his place." Catching her eye, he dropped the act and smiled sweetly, genuinuely, "But I'm glad it didn't break, must've been expensive." His lips quirked to one side of his mouth as he considered the box and the glimpse he'd gotten at its contents- not knowing what he could have done had it actually been busted.
"Yeah," he said as his emerald eyes found hers once again, voice soft as he rubbed at the back of his neck- anxious, totally not a charmer like Ashton, "Born in Texas, but raised in Beacon Hills," and curious himself, he asked, "How about you? I haven't seen you around before."

Jade was nodding along to what he was saying about genes without really meaning to. It was easier than making a 'hmm' sound. That was until she noticed a wave of emotion pass over Jensen, maybe she'd imagined it though as a second or so later it was gone; a blank slate in its place. Perhaps it was because of this that Jade laughed to, something must have effected the poor guy for him to get like that. "Oh. So, does he, uh, go through girls a lot?" If he said yes, which was probably what was going to happen, then Erin and her looks would have been right and frankly, as much as Jade loved her sister, she was right too often.
Hand adjusting around the handles of her bag, Jade kicked her legs into a more comfortable position, one in front of the other raised slightly. "I mean, you can go after him if you want. I wouldn't complain." Jade smiled in response to him, she was glad too, obviously. "Hmm, it was- expensive, I mean. I bought it for my sister, a Christmas present." He probably didn't care about that but oh well, she'd said it now.
Interesting, he and Ashton were from different places then, maybe their families didn't get along? Was that why he'd been upset. It would make sense. "My family and I, we're not from here. Arrived this past summer, my sister, Erin, and I we go to Beacon Hills High- I'm guessing you do too?" What if he asked why they'd moved here, all Jade could think of was saying they'd moved for her parent's work because that was true to some degree.

Crap. Jensen really did not want to be in this position, because on one hand, he needed to have Ashton's back- through thick and thin. On the other, well, he couldn't stand it if his cousin plowed through yet another girl without looking back. So he some how settled in between the two, his hand a permanent fixture at the back of his neck as he let a sheepish look melt his features. "Well, that really depends," he met her eyes for a moment, calculating as he added, "Ash has a tendency of chasing after girls who make it easy, ya know? So you can't really blame him if one or the other doesn't stick around." Jensen sighed, letting his gaze fall as he gave in his own two cents, "But if I'm being honest, he's got a heart, and just isn't in tune to it. He's just a kid, definitely acts like it- and he's stubborn. Kinda has a mindset that a man is someone who holds back emotions, his- his dad's like that." He managed to meld the words together, making it indecipherable whether he 'is' or 'was' in the contraction. "I don't know why I'm telling you this," he said around a breathy laugh, "Why're you asking? Gotta crush?" It was said in a teasing, but soft manor, his honest grin lightening the words. To soften the blow some, and oh god he should just shut up, he added, "And if it makes you feel any better, he's never been with a girl with as much fire as I've seen in you. You'd definitely give him a run for his money." Knock some sense into him. Put him in his place. Make him feel.
Jen knew why Ashton played women the way he did, and it could easily be fixed if only someone could get through to him.
Happily getting off of the topic concerning his cousin's love life, Jensen commented, "Well, in that case, I'm really glad it didn't break. I hope your sister likes it." His hand finally found its way into his pocket, the other following suite as he teetered on the balls of his feet and nodded, "Yeah, I go there. Missed the first two weeks- was upstate with my mom, but yeah- I'll be back in class Monday. Where are you from?"
He just really wanted to get himself out of the limelight, for he was an open book and would spill whatever she wanted him too.

Listening to Jensen describe Ashton, Jade kept her gaze mainly on him although from time to time it would flick upwards as she processed what he was saying. Hmm, so it seemed that Jade was right in thinking that Ashton was a bit of a player. When Jensen mentioned her having a crush though, Jade's cheeks turned a soft pink colour, an almost coy smile on her face. Yes, she had a crush, yes she wasn't going to admit that to her sister because all she get was an eye roll and a warning to be careful. With what he said next though Jade's smile turned to more of a grin and now she was blushing more at that. God, she was a blusher. "Well, I've already had him pay for my lunch once before so you know, I'm already after his money." Okay so maybe both Jensen and Jade struggled to control what they were saying because to Jade what she was saying made about zero sense. Ah well, there was still time to make herself seem sane.
Jade hoped she liked it too although internally she'd decided that if Erin wasn't 100% in love with it, Jade was going to keep it for herself. Call her selfish or whatever you wanted but it was expensive and Jade never spent that kind of money on one thing, she was more of a bought in a sale kind of girl. "Oh, we're from all over. We travel a lot." Jade shrugged not knowing how to explain that point any further. "Not sure how long we'll stay here for. To be honest me and Erin really didn't want to come but maybe it's not all bad here." Jade had Ashton in mind for that last part because it wasn't as if Beacon Hills itself had many highlights.

The blush tinting her cheeks a deep pink color was fairly amusing. It wasn’t the first, and surely wouldn’t be the last, time he’d watched a girl fall to his cousin’s charms. He was a master at making knees weak, women swoon, and leaving the always wanting more. Jensen got the short end of the stick when it came to flirting, and was always mildly uncomfortable in situations like this- even if the color on her face wasn’t directed at him. How was he meant to handle someone else’s affection? It’s not like he’d seen much of it growing up, this just wasn’t in his skill set. Didn’t matter anyhow, he supposed. Jade would surely get a grip on her attraction soon enough and Jensen wouldn’t be left skirting around the topic with uncertain words in due time. Books he got. Knowledge was in the bag, but socializing in this manor? It wasn’t at the top of his list, but it wasn’t like he couldn’t do it.
So with a gentle smirk, he shook his head teasingly at her words and encouraged her some, “Well then, it seems you’ll have him wrapped around your pretty little finger in no time.” Ashton really wasn’t much into making his small affairs into anything lavish. It was always a ‘you’re hot, I’m hot- let’s get it on’ kind of situation. If he was paying, it was to impress. He must really want this girl, and Jensen could only hope it was for the right reasons.
He nodded along with her statement, still curious as to where she’d been to and what those places were like, but figuring he shouldn’t ask if she hadn’t gone into further detail with it. She’d have told him if she’d wanted him to know. Though, he couldn’t help but asking a question after her next statement, eyebrows draw in some as he shuffled his feet, “You just up and move like that? I mean, what about the friends you make?” What about Ashton? was left unvoiced.

Jade tilted her head at his words, hands unconsciously wrapping around each other on the bags handle. There had to be some other connotation behind his words. Did she dare ask though? Of course she did because she was, as we've discovered, a curious little bugger. "What makes you say that?" Jade asked a small smile had etched it's way onto her face a smile she couldn't stop because well, this seemed like it could lead to more information on Ashton and what he felt about her because after their meeting Jade couldn't help but be confused with her feelings. She'd never liked someone so quickly so much before.
Ah her friends. Jade struggled to remember their names sometimes, it was always, 'oh that friend with the pixie cut from that town' or 'oh, you remember that boy... the one with the up... shit was it a nose piercing or a lip piercing?' Moving got confusing but Jade had never known anything else. She guessed it would be a harder thing to come to terms with if you'd say, lived ten years somewhere and then moved a decent distance away without knowing when you'd next see your friends. "Hmm, I guess that the way I've dealt with it is that I make friends but," man, this was hard to explain, "I don't get too attached?" It was a horrible way to live Jade knew that but she also believed in what her parents were doing so she couldn't be annoyed at them, not really. "I'm fully aware of how shit that sounds but I've never known anything else."

Should he? Well, he supposed it couldn't really hurt. It wasn't like Ashton was some diary under lock and key when it came to his flirting tactics. His cousin made things obvious, didn't care much for that Hollywood courting crap where the two main characters danced around the fact that they were going to bang at some point. Didn't see the appeal of wasting time buying flowers and blushing stutters when he could skip the whole process and get to the good stuff. What was the point of all of that if he could have the girl under his arm sooner rather than later. Ashton's words, not his- the kid isn't very eloquent.
So with a shrug, Jensen simply stated the facts, "I mean, I know him. He doesn't normally put effort into things he feel will be over quick- so if he's out buying you lunch, you must mean something." He glanced around for a moment before allowing his shoulders to bob again, "But I don't exactly know every detail about his love life, I've only seen him summers and holidays up until recently. Texas to Cali ain't a short trip." Jensen only got the dirty details over the phone, not that he wanted them, but Ashton was inclined to share. Though, there were the few that could actually qualify as girlfriends that his cousin had gushed about. So yeah, the kid was capable of love, or something close to it, he'd never use the word, but just didn't it with a cautious touch. There were girls he tossed, and some he nurtured
It seems Jade was well on her way to wiggling into his arms, if not his heart, but Jensen could make no promises on how well that work out, or how long she'd be kept there.
He could feel the mood change after his question, and almost wanted to take it back. It wasn't that he didn't care for in depth conversations, he was usually the one people turned to so they could spill their heart out to him- good listener, or whatever-, but more so that he felt this shouldn't be dealt with in a mall. Light-hearted was the way to go, so his response was measured to assure her that he got it, even if he didn't. "It probably helps. Best that way, I mean. It's not like you can help moving, right? I get that you'd rather not get close than have to deal with missing them." He understood that on a different level, missing his friends while he was with his mother and vice versa wasn't exactly a walk in the park.
Offering her a soft smile, he let his eyes leave hers once more to glance around him before his palm found the back of his neck again and he asked, "Do you have any other shopping to do? Don't suppose you want to spend your day blocking angry Christmas shoppers' way." He chuckled lowly, almost bashful as he spoke.

Honestly if Jade had a notebook she'd be taking notes on everything that Jensen was saying and then maybe that evening she'd read over them, wonder what to do next. All she could do though was nod along and try to not have a smug smile on her face (which was really hard let me tell you) whilst trying to remember everything he told her.
"My sister and I are 18 we could move out, stop following our parents around but I don't know where we'd go." Normally people would say that they'd stay wherever home was, right? That made sense. Only problem was Jade wasn't sure she knew where home was. To her home was with Erin but one day they'd end up going their separate ways and it would be up to Jade to figure out where she belonged in the big wide world. Maybe she'd stay here, in Beacon Hills, it didn't seem too bad. In truth Jade did miss those she'd befriended before no matter how hard she tried to keep her distance she had this innate drive to know people and be able to talk to them which often led to her growing close to said people.
Oh, right, they were still stood in the middle of the shopping center. Now look who was the human roadblock. "Shit, yeah. I still need to find something for my parents but since I don't really have any friends here that's it." Way to go Jade, just made yourself sound like the loner of the year. All she could do was laugh though because it was true, so far she was lacking in the friends department. "Do you have any shopping to do? Might be fun to shop with someone else?" Jade was more saying that last part for herself quite frankly, shopping by yourself could become very tedious.

Nodding seemed the suitable thing to do while he listened, a look of consideration creasing his features before he spoke, "Well, I mean, you guys could just stay here?" He may have sounded a tad hopeful, not just because he was aiming to help Ashton out given his intention with the girl seemed rather fair, but because he liked Jade as a person. She was snarky and nice to be around from what he could tell, plus he didn't think she'd want to start all over again somewhere new. Then again, what did he know? So he followed up quickly with a shrug and wandering eyes, gaze passing over the crowds, "I mean, it isn't exactly the most entertaining place," which was kind of a lie- supernatural hot spot, hello, "And really, if I had the opportunity to just up and more wherever, it wouldn't be here, but if you like it?" He gave up on that train of conversation, just shrugging again as he found her eyes. What was it to him if she stayed or left? He'd be left wondering how things might be different given they had become friends and Ashton would mope for about a week, but nothing serious. Nothing noteworthy. So he left it at that, turning his attention unto her next words.
Once again nodding, his lips jutted out into a thoughtful pout as he pondered where she'd be able to find something suitable for her parent, but he was distracted by her laugh, a considerate smile tugging on his lips. He knew it wasn't always fun being without company, so he tried to make light of it, "Hey, less money wasted on others," then teasingly he let his elbow nudge hers as he winked playfully, "Unless you wanna get me something." There, now she had a friend- if she wanted. Back to business, he kept the smile on his lips as he agreed, "Yeah, I just need to stop by the movie shop," go him, forgot the name, "And then was just going to browse," he grinned at her last question, glad she wanted to stick around, "I don't mind the company if you wanna tag along. Maybe we'll find something for your parents on the way." It's a win-win.

Jade smiled, head dipping down before her eyes cut up to meet Jensen’s, a grin curled around her lips. “Maybe I’ll stay here. Sick of losing people and all that.” The amount of friends Jade could have had was almost unnerving. Obviously no one was stopping her from making friends, she did that to herself. Maybe that’s why when Erin found Jade with Ashton she allowed Jade to make a friend because she realised that Jade wanted –no, needed- friends. All Jade could hope was that in a few months’ time instead of looking at a pile of cardboard friends she’s be looking at a group of friends. “I like it here.” She told him with a small nod, a reassuring smile flitting across her face.
Jade was smiling along because if you couldn’t tell, she liked to smell at people while they were still in her good books. One wrong move though and you found yourself surrounded by Jade’s death glare with nowhere to go. Her smile couldn’t help but broaden though, had she just made a friend? Man, she needed to keep on coming to the mall because clearly that’s where the people were at. “Sure!” Jade said a bit too enthusiastically but frankly she was just glad that she wouldn’t have to traipse around the mall all by herself trying to be inspired. “So, where is the movie store? I’ve been in this town for a while already, yet I have no idea where anything is.” Okay, maybe she hadn’t made the effort to find out where things were but hey, we’ll say it’s the town’s fault that she didn’t know where the cinema or bowling alley way. The streets just needed more signs.

A breath of relief fell from his lips as she'd made a loose promise, and he didn't know why. Probably wouldn't ever really know why he was pushing her to stay so hard, could sum it up to trying to please Ashton, hoping that this girl could start to patch together the parts of his cousin that the boy refused to deem as broken. She seemed like the perfect fit, someone who could squeeze into those cracks and glue him back together, get his mind off all of the troubling thoughts and change his harsh behavior. Then again, Jensen could be wishful thinking and tossing his duties as the older of the two onto someone else because trying to take care of Ashton? Trying to get him to man up and face his feelings on his parents deaths? It was exhausting and time-consuming. He needed a break and his cousin needed a woman he could pour his woes into because he didn't seem ready to quite face the matter on Jensen's terms. So yeah, he was relieved sh would consider staying simply because she could help Ashton- no need to look deeper into the matter.
God, Jensen needed to get out- like really get out, not just because he was forced to. His world was wrapped around Ashton's finger and that was never good. The sooner he got his head in the game and out of his cousin's hold, the better.
Smiling softly at her words after his few seconds of brief pause, he nodded as well, saying "I'm glad you're considering, then," and leaving it at that. Though, he did laugh at her enthusiasm at the prospect of joining him and simply shook his head, a grin splitting his lips as he jerked his head in the direction of the store- just behind her, a few stores down on the left of where they were standing. "The movie store is down there, has newer movies than the rental shop," normally he'd just stick to Netflix, but the movie he wanted to watch, sadly, wasn't on there, "And don't worry about not knowing your way around. The town's small, but I still even get lost now and then." It was a bit of a lie, he was only disoriented after returning from his mother's- transitioning from the big city she lived in to Beacon Hills took a few days to readjust to. Still, if it'd help her feel better, he'd lie.
Then an idea hit him, "But if you ever are interested in learning your way around town, I've been meaning to take Ashton around, you could join us sometime?"
