"Oh! Stealing food from people. Why didn't I think of that?" Natalia was quick to quip back, all smiles now because yes, the killer of innocent people to save her own skin could be gentle. She always used to be gentle, maybe not straightaway but after a while you'd know that her teasing and taunts were just her personality and not a jab at you. Now though she felt like she always needed to have the upper hand to always be in charge of what was going on. Natalia knew that this was causing a rift to grow between her and Rose. Frankly though, the way Natalia saw it, she was, to some extent, blocking her out to protect her. When Rose had found out that she was a werewolf the situation had become very messy and Natalia didn't want that to happen again which was why when Rose asked how she was doing or if Natalia wanted to talk about something, she'd simply give a quick, simple response and then leave.
Natalia was grateful for her werewolf strength when it came to moving Sam, he was a pretty solid guy it would appear. Once Natalia was certain that they were safely back on track she released his arm but not before noticing what looked like a blush on his cheeks which was only ever so slightly there but you know, keen werewolf sense and all, she notices a lot of things. It wasn't too long before they reached the shop, pushing on the door, Natalia looked back up at Sam to check he was behind her still as she stepped into the shop. "Here we are then, aisles of gourmet at out service."

"I don't know- figured that was right up your alley. You had the opportunity to turn me into some bad boy and you missed it," Sam teased right back, determined to keep the light banter afloat because if they weren't giggling, they were either snipping at each other or awkwardly avoiding eye contact. Joking was their best bet to keep this conversation flowing and to keep Natalia from pushing him into the pond as duck food. Six foot four did not promise gracefulness. One little shove and he'd be floundering in the waist deep water. Though, Natalia is also the kind of person to push him in just for fun, not only out of spite. Sam would just stay a safe distance back. Just in case. "Guess I'll just be a too tall, goody two shoes until you properly corrupt me," he craned his head back, soaking in the sunlight and tossing one hand through his hair for dramatics. Playing up the part of a preppy, stuck-up kid- well, for as long as he could. His head fell forward, a sheepish grin on his lips and a light tint to his cheeks as he peeked at her from under his bangs, curious if she found it humorous or just flat out stupid.
For the briefest of moments, the corners of Sam's lips dipped down, already missing the gentle heat from Natalia's guiding palm. He was quick to hide it, curving his smile into something softer to hide his slight disapproval at the lack of touch. Normally, he was one to gesticulate often. Talking with his hands and offering comforting touches or even just looping his arm around another's shoulders. It was an urge he couldn't repress, but managed to when it came to her. He didn't think she'd take his giant paw on her lower back too well- or anywhere on her, for that fact. So he didn't touch, just silently moped while keeping up pace.
And like that, they were through the 7-Eleven's double, automatic doors, him looming just behind her, not quite daring to step to her side. He learned that lesson quick, not too many people enjoyed a man his size beside them- they took it as a threat, and where he was capable of committing an almost flawless murder (thanks dad, for that), Sam was nothing more than a clumsy puppy. But still, his height made people weary, so he lingered back a step. Glancing at the aisle headers, he made quick work of finding the bread aisle.
With a chuckle at the 'gourmet' comment, Sam found his hand gently slapping her shoulder before gesturing towards their right, voice low as he pointed out, "Aisle seven. Bread," he paused for a moment, squinting before questioning, "And office supplies? Who organized this place?" His voice was incredulous, gaze batting down towards her with a disbelieving little smirk on his lips.

"Ah, I see. I'll corrupt you one day- you won't even notice." Natalia responded, head nodding along sincerely. "It will be an attach of bad boyness." Honestly, where was she going with this. It had been so long that Natalia had actually joked and smiled with someone that she felt so out of her own skin, like she didn't know how to communicate the fact that she was enjoying this. Wow, talk about smooth, am I right? Watching his dramatic hair flip, Natalia was caught off guard, mouth dropping but when she caught his eye she let out a laugh which reminded her of when a tap's stuck and the sputters out a burst of water. She missed it, being lighthearted with someone, who would have thought Sam would bring it out in her?
With Sam behind her, Natalia was trying to read the signs but maybe she was a bit too short (although she'd have you know she was of an average height and by no way short, being in Sam's presence just didn't help the matter). Sam though seemed to have no trouble in finding the aisle, had to be down to the those extra inches of height he had. She was caught off guard though by his hand, not in a bad way and honestly she'd rather it had stayed there but how could she admit that or project that feeling without completely giving herself away. "Hmm, my brother by the sounds of it. You should have looked in his school bag at some point- sounds just like that aisle." Meeting his eyes, Natalia cocked her head in the direction of the aisle, "lets go buy some ducks lunch."

"I'll be looking forward to it," Sam teased back, tossing a wink her way as he chuckled softly. What would he even look like as a bad boy? Dye his already bordering on emo-length hair black? Or maybe just leave it be? Spike it up? He doesn't even want to think about changing his clothes. Off limits. Would it just be his attitude that changed? He figures sure fire signs of him morphing into this character Natalia seems set on molding would be him walking and talking like Teddy twenty-four seven. Or he could just have this whole idea of a 'bad boy' chalked up wrong because Hollywood influenced him falsely. Really, who walks around with their hair slicked back wearing too big leather jackets and a group of similarly dressed men flanking them- he just recently re-watched Grease, Noelle was going through a phase.
Sam thinks he'd rather stick to the (far too tall and athletic to actually pull it off) nerd look than fall into a nineteen fifties high school fantasy, thank you very much.
"Oh god," was his first reaction, wondering what kind of horror that poor bag saw, but then the humor of the situation made light and he couldn't help but giggle and shake his head. Alex always did seem to be munching on something in class, a hand hidden in the depths of a bag messier than Sam's life and retreating with some new snack each coming day. Even thinking about that mess of a bag made him fight a cringe. Disorder was something he couldn't quite deal with, which of course Teddy took advantage of every time Same came home- putting his little brother's meticulous organizing skills to use around his bedroom and the office stocked with hunting weaponry, notaries from the county, and books about this creature and that method of killing it. Had Sam gotten close enough to Alex's grocery store of a bag, he would have had a field day putting everything in his place. Which is admittedly a extremely strange habit that he intended to keep to himself. Moving on.
Cracking a smile, Sam nodded as he tucked his hair behind his ears, heading into the aisle as he joked back, "Well I hope they appreciate it." His eyes roamed up and down the shelves, wondering if the birds would prefer raisin bread or wheat bread better.

Thinking about it, Natalia was sure bread was bad for ducks- didn't it fill them up so much that they could explode or something? Maybe she was remembering wrong. Pushing the thought away, Natalia stopped by Sam, taking in the relatively limited selection of bread the store had to offered. "I'm thinking wheat." She told him, completely somber in tone despite the fact that they were to buy food to feed to ducks of all things; talk about out of character. Grabbing a loaf before they wasted too long simply staring at the breads, Natalia carried on down the aisle, she was sure she'd seen something about muffins? Ah, there they were - blueberry ones, too - her favourite, eyes flitting down towards Sam, Natalia decided to skip the muffins and just go to pay. Why? Well, she had a habit of making a mess whenever she ate them and frankly that would probably result in a messy incident which she didn't feel like experiencing right now.
Passing the $1.50 to the cashier, Natalia could sense more than see Sam behind her. Dipping her head down as she grabbed the loaf, her eyes gaze caught his beneath lowered lashes and there was a shadow of a smile on her face. "Lead the way, Sam."

Sam had just come to the same conclusion, wheat rather than raisin- mainly due to the dollar difference. Were raisins really that much more expensive? They were sad, wrinkled old grapes and certainly weren't appealing in the least to him. What a rip-off. Now Sam was all for eating healthy food, Theodore picked fun at him for it, but he wouldn't touch raisins. Never would, never will. Grapes, sure. But dried up ones? No. What a stupid fruit. Internal rant over, he simply nodded along with her selection, watching as she snatched up a loaf before marching off further down the aisle. Apparently they were grocery shopping. Okay then. He watched her eyes narrow in on the muffins- blueberry, he thinks, but couldn't be sure from this angle. She'd looked so intently at the package of the pastries that Sam was surprised as she walked on without them. Frowning softly, he wondered why she hadn't grabbed them- and summed it up to her not wanting to pay, or maybe not wanting to eat and make a mess. Sam was a well known victim of crumbs in his shirt and jelly in his hair.
So he snatched them up as she made her way to the checkout, holding back as he tried to decide which ones looked the best.
By the time he'd reached the cashier Natalia had already paid for the bread, something was set on doing, but too late for that now. His breath got stuck in his throat as he caught her look. The subtle smile on her lips and lowered lashes, it was like a PG wet dream. That... was not a good example, get your head out of the gutter Sam. Blushing wildly at both his thoughts and her stare, Sam shrugged as he raised the container of muffins, quickly sliding it over to the cashier and paying before she could protest.
Head held down, his cheeks were set aflame as he came up to her side, all teenage boy with a raging crush locked in a six foot plus sized body. "Uh," he started so eloquently, clearing his throat and casting his gaze to the door as he nodded, "Yeah, the park. Let's." The words died on his lips as he tightened his grip on the plastic bag the muffins were hiding in and gestured towards the door with his free hand, feet beginning to take him in that direction as he avoided acknowledging the muffins.
Though he wasn't sure why.

Oh how easy it was to make him blush from one mildly flirty look- if you wanted to call it that. Wow, she was becoming more like Alex with each passing day. A second later her eyes caught the muffins in his hand she wanted to say something, to be stubborn about the whole situation but she couldn’t bring herself to, after all, they were a personal favourite of hers and if he was willing to pay then she wasn’t going to stop him.
Honestly now that the muffins were here they were Natalia’s only thought. Seriously, screw ducks and let her eat. The shadow of a smile on her face lightened as he came to stand beside her and maybe it was the fact that he had muffins with him but he was becoming more and more desirable. Or maybe it was the whole idea of he had Gen, of the fact that he wasn’t hers to just take that was getting to her. She’d been the type to want things she couldn’t have and clearly she was still that same girl.
As Natalia fell into step with him on route to the door she couldn’t help but wonder why he’d bought the muffins, maybe she shouldn’t ask, maybe she shoulder, who knew- not her. She forgotten how bright it was out here and with heightened senses as she stepped into the daylight, Natalia squinted a little before her eyes adjusted to the June brightness. The park was only another couple of minutes away and you could tell, in this part of town there were more joggers and families, spending the day in the warm weather. Some of them may even have the same agenda as Sam and Nat- to feed ducks that is not to end up in a relationship with either of them. “I can’t remember the last time I went to the park,” Natalia admitted as she could see it come into view. It had to be a couple of years ago, when Rose was slightly younger or she’d decided to challenge Alex to some lame game of Frisbee or something (which trust me, you don’t want to do, Natalia and Alex were both competitive and it often ended if fights).

“Me neither,” Sam hummed in response to Natalia’s comment, eyes batting left and right as he soaked in the June sun, burning up under his layers of shirts- but he didn’t take any off, for some reason the idea of stripping in front of his childhood crush just didn’t bode well. Not that he was ashamed of his body, no- just that he was more than likely to screw it up. Drop the muffins, trip over his feet- the works. Taking off a flannel had never seemed so hard.
Screw it. It’s not really that hot.
Bright, though? Definitely. He was squinting as they made their way towards the pond, the bag dangling beside him, occasionally hitting his leg and shaking up the contents.
When had he last been to the park? He couldn’t remember. It’d been far too long. Noelle had only been just starting high school, right before Sam took off further north to bury himself in the college life. He couldn’t even recall what they’d done really, just knew it wasn’t pleasant His last time being here blending with the time before that, making it hard to remember. Nothing stood out- aside from the time he saved a baby squirrel, which only resulted in the mother squirrel attacking him and Teddy cracking up as he tried to bat the rodent off without hurting it. Maybe there was a reason he hadn’t visited the park in so long after all.
God, he could only hope today would plant better memories- and that there would be no evil squirrels. Please.
His eyes were drawn back down to Natalia, studying her silently as they marched on. Things were visibly different from their last encounter- even more different than when they’d bumped into each other this morning. She was calmer in his presence, more willing to smile and far more sociable. It was nice. Sam had no idea what he did to achieve this, but he couldn’t help but want to do it again and again. Whatever it took to have Natalia comfortable with him, to have her actually want to be around him instead of teasing him from afar like her friends had in high school. He could only dream.
With a soft smile on his lips, he finally added, “I think the last time I was here, Noelle dropped her shoe or something in the lake and when I tried to get it for her, I fell in.” Apparently he just didn’t have good memories at the park.
Managing a laugh at his own expense, he let his eyes return to Natalia, hoping to catch a smile.

"You fell in? Wow," Natalia replied with a smirk curling its way over her lips, as she pushed a stray hair away from the front of her eyes. It had been trying to work its way into her mouth and eyes and she was not going to stand for that. “Hopefully you won’t be taking a dip today; I’m not very skilled at first aid.” This was because normally Natalia was the one causing the injuries but hey, everyone has a quirk. If you wanted to call injuring people a quirk that is.
A few more strides later and they’d reached the edge of the pond, a quiet spot with mothers terrified that children were going to fall into its murky depths. Although she wouldn’t admit it to Sam, Natalia had fallen in herself once but over here on this side of the water it was only a couple of feet deep and easy to escape from (the shame was not so easy to shake though). So in reality mothers and father didn’t really need to worry too much, I mean come on, teach your child some survival skills, God knows they need them in this town.
There were a handful of ducks swimming around in the middle of the pond so at least they hadn’t gone to the effort of buying bread and walking all the way here to find there were no ducks to feed. “So, you know that moment you get the bread out around ducks and they all swarm around you, please tell me you’re not afraid of ducks and you’re going to run away from the duck army?” Natalia was all teasing with Sam now, even going so far as to lightly push his shoulder with her hand.

It turns out he was the duck king, feeding his disciples even pieces of bread with unwavering trust. No ducks attacked him, and he managed to not take a dunk in the lack. Sam called that successful.
The rest of their little park date (don't tell Nat he called it that, please) went by with ease. Little snippets of stories told and smiles shared. It was easy, shockingly so. Sam hadn't been ready to be met with such simplicity from a girl like Natalia. He knew there were things she wasn't saying, things he wasn't willing to share himself, but it was fun. Fun to pretend for a day that everything was okay.
They parted as night fell. The bread was gone and the smiles shadows as he fumbled through a goodbye, her own snarky dismissal making his heart swell.
He couldn't keep the grin off his face for the rest of the night.
