Although she'd been there more times than she could count in the past two years, this time it wasn't actually Riley's fault that she'd ended up at the Sheriff's Office. This time it was a group of people from her school, the only thing she was guilty of was going along with them - which in hindsight probably wasn't the best decision, but nobody's perfect, right? That's what she told herself anyway. But there she was, sitting in the reception of the Sheriff's Office waiting to be picked up by her dad for breaking into a warehouse. Pathetic. Why she couldn't just walk home she didn't understand. She lived a ten minute walk away, and yet her dad would be at least another forty minutes to pick her up after work. It was pointless and it was a waste of an evening. Leaning back on her chair with a heavy sigh, Riley glanced up at the clock and rolled her eyes. It was only half past five and her dad didn't even finish work until six. It wasn't even like she'd done anything, it wasn't Riley who broke the window or tried to punch the security guard. As far as she was concerned, she was innocent. Kinda.
Another ten minutes had passed and the hard chair was starting to become increasingly uncomfortable. Groaning quietly, she got to her feet and began to walk out, giving up on waiting. The receptionist tried to call her back, but Riley didn't care. She wasn't bothered about her dad or what he would say or anything, she just wanted to get out of there. By the time she'd walked half way across the car park on her way to cross the street, she'd noticed someone staring at her near a few of the cars.
"I'm sorry but do you want something? I'm not here for your entertainment, you know." She asked, shoving her hands in her pockets. Why she was even bothering she didn't know, she should have just ignored the person and carried on walking home but she was too pissed off for that already.

Trick's dad, despite the fact she hated him, somehow always managed to bail her out of trouble. The reality was that he spent his life flying around the globe, making important business deals or - or something... Trick wasn't actually sure. When it came down to it, however, he always had enough money to throw at the Sheriff's office to convince them that whatever she'd done was definitely worth 'turning a blind eye to'. It worked every time. Today's escapades included 'accidentally' getting caught stealing by the hot mall cop, because the only time he'd even make casual conversation with her was when he was trying to clip cuffs to her wrists... Not that she minded, she'd done weirder things in the bedroom before. Besides, this time she'd actually managed to learn his name, Wesley, so it was progress, right?
Still, Wesley had insisted on taking her down to the Sheriff's office and it was only after an hour on the phone to her father that he finally let her go again, releasing for the umpteenth time in the past six months. Oh well. It was just another day, right? As she turned to get in her car, she couldn't help but notice the redhead walking past, a girl she was sure she used to be friends with, once upon a childhood. It was Scott, maybe? She seemed like the Riley she seemed to know, anyway, and the question was only confirmed when the girl spoke up, the familiar sass hissing through her words.
"Sorry, Scotty," Trick teased in reply, words slipping easily over her velvet tongue, "sometimes your beauty just overwhelms me, I guess, and I just can't stop staring." Whether she was being serious or not, she couldn't tell, and so she quickly fixed it, continuing the sentence with, "I'm kidding - I guess I'm just waiting to see if you'll beam me up." The sentence was originally a Star Trek reference, but the pair used to the throw the words at each other when they were little, Trick picking it up off some tv show she saw when she was little, and thinking it was hilarious (even if she had no idea what it was actually referring to at the time). Mostly, she just hoped Riley would understand what she was talking about, and not just write her off as some bitchy lunatic.

Upon the realisation it was only Trick, Riley laughed, rolling her eyes as she walked over her childhood friend. The reference Trick had made Riley smirk as she folded her arms and stood in front of her. "Really? I thought you were too self centered to ever think I'd be beautiful." She relayed the joke back, their style of humour quite similar to each other's. That was probably why they were both attracted to each other as kids, because they both used to play pranks on or laugh at their teachers. Surprisingly enough, the teachers didn't share their humour and so they became friends in detentions. But then Riley's family left when she was only twelve to live in New York. Obviously once their mother had died they returned two years later because their dad couldn't cope on his own and wanted to be around family. Since she'd been back, Riley hadn't even seen or spoken to Trick, despite once being close.
"Let me guess, stealing again?"

"It's not that I'm too self-centered, it's that you've always been too much of a bitch for me to dare being nice to you - you might think it's a sign of weakness," Trick teased in reply, running a lazy hand through her hair as she drummed her another hand against the roof of the car in front of her, red nails matching the colour of the car paint below. It was no lie that Trick was self-centered, she always had been, but there had always been a soft spot in her heart for Jasper and Riley and, she'd like to think that, despite the fact that her head was so full of her own self, she'd always find a way to make time for the pair of them. They were the two people she hated slightly less than everyone else, and that was something she'd never let go of.
"How'd you guess?" she continued after a moment, slight grin growing across her lips as she added, "I mean, it's not my fault that the new mall cop is hot, right?"

Riley mimicked what Trick was saying and pushed her tongue to the side of her cheeks at the same time as raising her eyebrows. "My guess was more along the lines of typical little rich girl who's daddy could buy her anything but yet she chooses to rebel by indulging in petty theft just so she can get patted down by a cop. How close am I?" With a laugh rolling off her tongue, Riley's eyes flickered to the scarlet car that Trick was standing next to. Whether it was hers or not, she didn't know, but knowing Trick it probably was. Either that or she'd probably hot-wired it. Regardless of her friend's capability to stay out of trouble - or lack thereof - Riley had missed her. It didn't matter that they hadn't seen one another in years because Riley cared about Trick. She was one of the few people she gave a damn about. The only people she really gave a damn about were her closest friends and her brother. Other than that, everybody else could just fuck themselves as far as she was concerned. "But if you're talking about Wesley, or whatever his name is, I can't help but agree."

"...Are you sure you're not my therapist?" Trick replied with a laugh, grin spreading slowly across her face, red lips outlining her pearl-white teeth, contrast you only ever really saw in movie stars who bleached their teeth every week and liked to point it out to the world. The reality was that Trick couldn't actually argue with any of the things Riley had just said - the girl always had known her just a little too well all of their lives; she seemed to know her better than she knew herself sometimes, and she couldn't help but feel just a little flattered (even if her chances of ever actually admitting that were around zero - Trick lived in a constant world of having no feelings, at all). She shook the feeling off quickly. She wasn't flattered by the fact Riley knew her that well, at all. No. That would be ridiculous - that would be assuming that she actually cared for someone, which was absurd, quite frankly. She didn't have feelings. None. She was like a rock, right? Rocks didn't have feelings, they were just - well, rocks.
It was only when Scotty spoke again that Trick pulled her attention back to the conversation, raising a perfectly sculpted eyebrow as she asked, "oh, so you know who I mean? .... I feel like that explains all the petty thievery in the name of a good old pat me down." Another light laugh escaped her lips as she drummed her fingers against the car once more before biting her lip, thinking for a minute, and asking, "your dad picking you up? Because, if he is, I could think of a million other places I'd rather be than trapped in a car with him, and I think you should ditch and come with me."

"Maybe I'm a fugitive with multiple identities, you never know." Riley winked, her shoulders moving up and down quickly as she watched Trick. For a moment, Riley thought she was going to say something - feel something - about how well they knew each other, but the moment passed as quickly as it came about and Trick went back to being a stone cold wall which Riley was slightly frustrated at, but also sort of admired about her. Not that she'd ever admit it. She laughed at the comment about the cop at the mall, it was a typical Trick answer, and she'd missed that.
"Unfortunately he is. For him anyway, because by the time he gets here I guess I'll be gone." Riley flashed a grin at Trick and then nodded her head towards the car. "This yours?"

"It is now," Trick replied with a smirk, nimble fingers closing around the handle of the car door and yanking it open, cracks showing in her flawless confidence and as she momentarily panicked over whether she'd done it right, and whether the car alarm was about to burst through the silence of the car park, and she'd have to be bailed out by her dad's money yet again. She wasn't too bothered about that, truth be told - it was more the sheer embarrassment she'd face from Riley, who would undoubtedly be judging her for it. Who even was Trick Sullivan, if she couldn't even steal a car? The alarm didn't go off, and Trick slipped inside quickly, red talons clasping the steering wheel as she rolled Riley's window down, pouting slightly as she asked, "where may I escort you, m'lday?"

Typical. Riley couldn't help but laugh as she walked around the back of the car and slid into the passenger seat. It was a nice car, clearly an expensive car, so she couldn't understand why the owner didn't bother installing an alarm. Either they were way too trusting or their single brain cell was clearly not functioning properly. Oh well, it wasn't like she cared anyway. If someone was too stupid not to secure their car, surely it was obvious someone would break into it. Maybe if Trick was feeling particularly - and unusually - nice, she'd return it later. But that would probably be asking for too much.
"Ugh, I don't know. Anywhere's got to be better than here, right? Nobody has a sense of humor around here anymore." Riley crossed her left leg over her right and looked over at Trick, who was still pouting, and grinned. "Somewhere fun." Resting her head back against the cold leather seat, she reached forwards to turn the radio on and turned up the volume. "Any ideas?"

"Beacon Hills doesn't understand the word fun, trust me," Trick drawled, revving the engine before she sped out of the car park, no longer sure where she was driving, but going anyway, merely just enjoying the idea of complete and utter freedom. She really loved driving, even if she wasn't really that good at it, and it'd really been her daddy's money that had even enabled her to get a license. She tended to find even the most straight-laced officials could be bribed, if the amount was high enough. Everyone had a weakness, in the end, and it just so happened that a lot of people's was crippling debt, or something equally ridiculous. It wasn't her fault that she wanted to help, maybe even gain something along the way, was it? She'd taken to just driving for the hell of it, her hands almost moving for her as they steered towards something, but what? She had no idea. That was, until they arrived.
It was a park. A shitty little park that she and Riley had visited when they were little. Hell, they spent half of their childhood here, pushing each other on the swings and pretending they were monster hunters, running into the woods beyond in the name of finding and catching all the bad beasties of the world... If only they knew how right their imagination was, and how close to genuine death they'd come a few times. Trick could still remember some of the days, the days they'd run away from the damned place as fast as they could, chests heaving as the swore to each other to never tell another soul - that it'd be their little secret. Trick couldn't remember what the whole ordeal had even been about, but they were kids - they probably just freaked over the howling wind. All she really did know was that, in that moment, she'd never been more thankful that Riley even existed, and she'd secretly prayed that the girl would never leave her side, because she's the only one that really understood.
And then Riley left, and Trick was alone.
Tearing her head out of memory lane, Trick glanced over at Riley before switching the car off, resting her hand lazily against the window as the other adjusted her hair, doing anything she could to delay speaking. "Talk about a blast from the past, huh?" she finally spoke up, gaze unable to tare itself from the swings now. This was a bad idea - memories neither of them wanted were going to be dragged up - and yet she couldn't bring herself to leave.

"Oh believe me, I knew that already." Riley laughed and glanced over at Trick with one eyebrow raised. She didn't even know whether Trick could drive legally or even just in general. Clearly she wasn't the best driver, but she'd got them both there in one piece so Riley couldn't complain. Until they got the park, Riley couldn't even guess where they were going. She hadn't been near that area for so long she'd almost erased it from her memory. Almost. What she did remember was coming to this park pretty much everyday after school with Trick when they were younger, staying there for hours until it got dark just wait out and scare each other with stories or about something they'd apparently seen through the trees, until someone came to tell them they needed to go home because it was so late. It was usually Ezra sent out on a search party by their mum, but the girls would always convince him to go home and say he couldn't find them so they could spend an extra twenty minutes out there until their parents actually came themselves.
When her dad changed jobs, Riley resented her parents for making her move. She knew that she'd miss Beacon Hills and the mysteries she tried to solve, she'd miss the friends she had at school, hell she'd even miss school. But most of all she'd miss her friendship with Trick, and she felt guilty for leaving her because they often felt that no one else understood them. It was always just the two of them against the rest of the world. There was no one like Trick in New York, so despite how big the city was, Riley always felt quite lonely.
Glancing over at Trick, Riley could guess that she was reminiscing, too, and was mostly grateful when the brunette spoke, pulling them both out of the clouds. "Memory lane was a bumpy one for the both of us," She said pulling her gaze from the playground in front of them to quickly look at Trick. "You coming?" She asked, eyebrow raised as she waited for Trick to look away from the swing set they'd spent hours playing on. Slowly, she got out of the car and opened the gate to the park making her way to the swing set. It was all rusted now, and the scratches of names and inside jokes they'd made on the metal had mostly vanished much like their childhood.
