Ellie was just in her hometown cafe reading a book. The book was of course on supernatural creatures. Something her brother often made fun of her for. She was so into the book she didn't notice her old friend walk in. She didn't even notice the fact that they hadn't talked in a year. Ellie had been to busy at Juilliard. So she rarely got to talk to someone other than her family. She only looked up when she heard someone begin to talk.

Alaric was still adjusting back to his small town life, as he'd only been home for a few days. He was surprised at the amount of new faces he saw as he walked around town. News of a new pack in Beacon Hills didn't seem like too big of a deal until he realized just how many of them there were. Hopefully not all of them were werewolves, but he hadn't seen so many new faces in Beacon Hills in years.
But he didn't need to worry about that. It wasn't his problem, right? Alaric had a habit of trying to be involved in everything, which usually led to him worrying about things that had nothing to do with him. For now, though, he was just going to the cafe to sit down by himself and read a book. He smiled at the sight of Ellie, one of his few friends that he'd made before he left. He hadn't spoken to her since he'd gotten back, mostly because he was busy with other things, but this seemed like a good enough opportunity. "Ellie!" Alaric said happily as he walked over to her table. "Long time, no see." He couldn't help but notice the book in Ellie's hands, which made him laugh to himself. If only Ellie knew that the creatures she had become so obsessed with were actually real. And that many of her friends were some of them.

Ellie closed the book when she saw the familiar face. "Alaric!" She stood up and hugged him. "How've you been?" Ellie asked. Ellie was only friends with a few people but her friends she did have were ones worth keeping. It made her regret not really talking to any of them. She smiled at Alaric and sat back down. "Care to join me?" She asked.

"I've been alright," he said. Then he nodded and sat down next to her. "And you? I'm sure we have some serious catching up to do." Alaric wasn't sure what Ellie had been doing for college, but he was sure it was something exciting. Ellie had a lot of potential, and he was sure that she would do great things one day.

"We do. You first though. What's been going on in beacon hills?" Ellie a asked with a grin. It had been nearly a year since she left. She only came back for christmas and thanksgiving. Even then she didn't really talk to people when she came home.

Alaric raised an eyebrow at her. "Not a clue," he said. "I just got back on Wednesday. I'm guessing you've been away too, then?" Alaric had only assumed that Ellie had stayed in Beacon Hills while he was gone, though why he had assumed that, he wasn't sure. A girl like Ellie didn't belong in a small town, just like he didn't belong there either. They both thrived on bigger cities, even if they had anti-social tendencies.

"I actually just finished a year and a half at Juilliard. I just came home to see my brother," Ellie said. She missed new york but being home with her brother was more important. She looked over at Alaric,"so uh What've you been up to?" Ellie was curious as to why he was gone for a year.

Alaric shrugged. "I've been traveling. Studying. Things like that," he said. He couldn't go into too much detail on what he was actually doing since it was mostly learning from other supernatural vets and the like. As much as he'd love to tell Ellie about those things, he couldn't just tell everyone. It was safer to keep it a secret. Even if that secret weighed down on him heavier every day.
