Natalia, you are 22 years old, you can go out and have a drink and wear a frock and not feel immature. That thought process hadn't lasted too long, just around the block in fact before Natalia pulled her car to a stop and hopped out of it. It was rare that Natalia felt guilty for anything but that winter night as she walked down a hushed street and glanced casually at houses with sparkling Christmas lights and the muffled sound of early holiday cheer seeping through the windows before looking up at the sky, Natalia was hit with a wave of the feeling. A sudden thought of what have I done? What hadn't she done, that was a better question to ask. She'd ripped a hole the size of mercury through the hunters and wolves, yes they were never at complete peace but things had been quiet. She'd been the spark to start everything. Little did they know that she was one of the creatures they longed to hunt down, torture and kill.
Rose, her sister, she'd ruined her love life, her friendship, although Natalia had never forced her sister to do anything. Rose had been the one person Natalia had decided to not pressure into anything but Rose had done it anyway and she was yet to give Natalia a reason why. Natalia had been unreasonably harsh towards the younger girl, her whole family in fact. She blamed the hidden beast locked up inside of her, cowered at the site of the moon.
Only a few moments after this thought process, Natalia's legs buckled beneath her and she toppled to the ground, heeled feet faffing beneath her in her floor length dress. She'd gone out tonight for fun and there she was, half lying on the path, half on a piece of grass, tears pooling in her eyes. She never cried. Yet there she was, alone on the cold ground with no thought on her mind but the question of Natalia Harper, what have you done?

So far, so good, eh? He'd been reunited with an old friend, even if she was quite a bit younger. Friendship held no bounds. After their meeting, he'd found the strength to go home and strangely enough it was calm. His mother and sister embraced him, drained him of every detail relating to college before gossiping themselves about town. His father came in an hour or so later, shockingly enough not reeking of alcohol or the musky scent hunting carried- he just seemed peaceful. He sat in his lonesome rocking chair, listening and even smiling some as the family chatted. Noelle was cuddled into her brother's side on the floor, their heads tilted back some as they looked up at their story-telling mother. Every now and then, Sam would glance back and find his father's eyes on him, an odd sense of approval held in them. It was as if the man knew something he didn't. Three tales later, and about two hours in time, Theodore waltzed in- a cocky smirk on his lips and a bewildered look in his emerald eyes. The little blonde flower released the moose sized man so he could sprint to his older brother. Wrapping the man in a hug, he breathed a sigh of relief, everything was okay. The rest of the night panned out in Teddy talking about how he gave a Christmas miracle to a homeless teen by the name of Louly, everyone snacking on a buffet of cookies, and even his father sharing his latest hunting trip with them all. Of course Teddy knew what went on, he'd been there with him, but he still popped a gasp every now and then as he tightened a grip on his two siblings sat on the couch. It was so surprisingly peaceful, but Sam knew not to keep his hopes up on it staying that way too long.
With him around, everything always ended poorly. Sammy was bad luck.
That night after he tucked his little sister into bed, had a heartfelt conversation with his mother, joked around with his big brother for some time over college girls, and his dad even dared to wrap him in a hug, Sam left for a bit. He wanted to walk around his home town for a while, to just reminisce. Everything was the same, yet so different. He looked at it all with new eyes, every memory he had somehow twisting. Each argument, each kiss, each bundle of giggles- it all had a different meaning now, and he realized what a fool he'd been then. Sighing, he kicked a rock down the sidewalk with the tip of his boot. He hadn't changed much, never had. Sam was still the stubborn yet gentle giant he'd alway been, he still wore denim jeans and tacky flannels under his tan coat with dozens of pockets he probably would never use, and he always carried himself with a sense of authority. Really, the only thing that was different was the length of his ever growing hair.
A smile cracking across his lips at the thought of his chesnut locks reaching past the middle of his back as he aged, his eyes cast upwards, just in time to watch a girl crumple to the floor. His grin faded as quickly as it had graced his mouth, and he didn't hesitate to sprint to her aid. Skidding to a stop, he knelt at her side, placing his hand compassionately on her thin shoulder as she shook with sobs. "Hey, hey," Sam cooed, desperate to help her. He'd always been filled with care and hope, unlike Teddy who'd have wavered to help. "Sh, what's wro- Natalia?" The man's brow arched for a moment as he recognized the girl. They were by no means the best of friends in high school, but he knew her- really, everyone knew everyone here, but the way he'd up and left a few years ago he wouldn't blame her for forgetting him.
"It's okay," he gave her a light squeeze, sympathy plaguing his face as she cried. God, what happened?

Usually Natalia would have hit away the words, ignored them but they were so concerning, so filled with wanting to know what was wrong that she just let herself cry. It was when the voice said her name that Natalia froze for a moment, mind desperate to place it somewhere. The hallways of school, lockers slamming shut and a boy with eyes a mismatch of brown and green. She was certain his name was Sam but at that point in time Natalia didn't care. And for what seemed the first time in forever, Natalia reached up and hugged him. Why she did that, she wasn't too sure but there was a desperate need for comfort in the back of her mind and she'd take it from whoever. This was not the woman she normally was, this was a complete opposite.
There was nothing in her mind that sprung to her lips, she just cried, silent tears now as she thought of all the terrible things she'd done to those around her since she'd arrived back in Beacon Hills. How could a girl make such a mess of things? "God, I'm sorry for crying." Natalia finally sputtered out, pulling away to look at him. "You're called Sam, right?" What if she had this all wrong and she'd just sobbed on someone she had no idea about?

It hurt him more than it should have to watch the girl he'd once shared a more than awkward slow dance with back in middle school cry. Sam couldn't explain it, but his heart broke as she quivered under his touch, and even more so as she pushed herself into his chest. He didn't hesitate a moment to return the hug, his arms wrapped tightly around her torso as she sought out sympathy in he boy. Whatever the case was, he was there for her- which wasn't new to him. People were drawn to the giant, his uncanny empathy making him easy to turn to and confide in. He didn't know much about Natalia other than the basics of who she was and that she came from a family of hunters much like himself, but this seemed out of character for her. She was strong, and showing weakness had never been something he'd witnessed her do, so what had brought her to her knees must have been pretty intense. Clinging to her with all of his might, he wanted to make sure she knew that he was there for her. His face was squished against the side of hers, features scrunching up with pain as she spoke. Really, he wanted to cry himself. "Don't apologize," he said in a smooth voice, eyes filled with worry as she pulled away from the embrace. All of his problems faded into the back of his mind as he focused on the girl before him. One hand still clutching her shoulder, he let the other move to gently wipe the tears from her eyes. Desperately trying to not over step his bounds, his heart was having issues listening to what his mind insisted he do- he just had to make her okay. "It's fine to cry," he added before confirming her words with a soft nod, "Yeah, I'm Sam. W-what happened?" Pushing a weak smile to his lips to let her know it was okay to trust him, he looked her over once. The way she was dressed, he guessed a date gone wrong, but that wasn't something she'd break down over. This was so much worse.

As his arms wrapped tightly around her, Natalia sank into his touch, this was the weakest and most vulnerable she'd felt in so long. She couldn't remember the last time she'd cried, even when she'd been turned, she hadn't cried then. It felt so nice to have someone there even if it was just for a few minutes. Someone there who didn't know the whole story and didn't hate her, yet. God, she'd screwed up and she was only realizing how much now.
As she took him in, Natalia was certain that it was Sam and he was good enough to confirm that for her without being all 'you should remember me'. His actions were unexpected, hugging and wiping tears from her face were not what she had thought he would do, not after they hadn't spoken in years. But there Natalia was trying to find an answer for the boy she'd watched longingly across the hallway at, never quite brave enough to go and ask him what she wanted. She'd grown from there, she wasn't ever not brave now. "What happened... I was going to go out tonight and just have a nice time, take a break from all the shit I've caused. Then as I was driving I realized that drinking and Christmas parties are not my thing and then I guess I collapsed." Using one hand to smooth out a wrinkle in her dress, the other just laid still on her lap. "When did you come back?"

It was rather pleasant, really, to not have her swat his hand away as he dragged his thumb over her damp cheek. His eyes were fixated on the action, the tip of his tongue protruding from his smooth lips with concentration. A moment passed before he realized what he was actually doing- the tears were gone, he was just sat there caressing her face at this point. The slightest hint of a blush graced his face, and he was grateful that the poor light the street lamps gave off didn't show the accents of rosy pink across his cheekbones. Dropping his palm to his bent knee, he kept the other stationary on her shoulder until she cringed away from his touch. Sam was just so compassionate that he made things awkward.
He was just awkward.
Letting his eyes focus in on her face, he noted the changes. More mature, first off. Her jaw was more prominent, eyes colder, and lips curved into what seemed like a natural frown. She'd grown up, dropped the teenage pudge for a womanly authority. Natalia meant business and anyone could see that, but she still had a unmistakable beauty to her, and Sam could feel himself being pulled back into that childhood crush all over again. Snapping himself out of it, he refused to think about that, he had Jessica back at school- even if they weren't dating, they were in that 'phase'. Listening to her speak rather than delve deeper into his thoughts, he found his lips falling into a pout. That couldn't be it, she wouldn't bawl just because she didn't want to party, but he didn't press. Allowing himself to smile at her question, his gaze fell, his hand tapping against his jeans hesitantly. "This afternoon," he purred. So much had happened since he'd pulled into Beacon Hills, and he couldn't tell if he was happy for that or not. Home had never really been his favorite place, after all.
"How about we get off the ground, yeah?" Unless she preferred it here, in that case he didn't mind. Sam would sit here all night with her if she wanted. Whatever made her feel better.

If Sam had been anyone else, if Natalia had been in any other mood she would have pulled completely away from him and his caring action but she just let herself stay there on the ground whilst he wiped away non-existent tears. This was Natalia defeated, waving a temporary white flag at the sky, this change in character was only temporary though, she'd be back to her normal chaos within 24 hours; this was a fluke, it had to be. Natalia simply wasn't this nice, innocent girl. Innocent was waving at her from the rear view mirror. Watching him watch her, Natalia guessed what he was seeing, a messed up version of her once perky self with mascara probably staining the tips of her cheeks. When was the last time she'd looked at him properly? Probably years before he vanished and she went off traveling around the world, both desparet to leave the town but it seemed everyone came back eventually, even those who had vowed to stay away. "You only came back this afternoon and here you are, already helping a damsel in distress." Natalia murmured, energy sapping out of. "Maybe I liked the ground but okay." Natalie replied glancing away from him to the road wondering where they would go now. She refused to go home not after she'd made the effort to go out and have a good time, plans didn't seem to work when she was concerned.

Why was she so mesmerizing? Face stained with tears, make-up ruined and dragging down her cheeks, hair a smooth mess- she just captured his attention and Sam felt himself falling into that state of no control. He'd do anything and everything to fix the broken girl, much like he did whenever his mother would panic over a family argument or when his sister would crumple to the ground in defeat from the monster within. Natalia was just another victim of his kind heart, another name on the never-ending list of people he stuck beside until they no longer needed him. It wasn't anything more than that, he was sure of it.
Finally pulling his hand away from her body, he let it intertwine with the other as he glanced back up at her with his ever-knowing hazel eyes. A smile graced his lips as he chuckled and shook his head lightly, his hair brushing over his shoulders while he spoke with a hint of teasing, "But what the honor is on my behalf to have aided you," Sam would have added a bow if he'd been standing, but he wasn't, so instead he wiggled his brows at her in a vain attempt to get her to smile. Anything that didn't involve tears was a step in the right direction.
Eyebrows drawing in, he was at a crossroads, and really didn't want to make a decision either way. If she wanted to sit, they could. He had no preference on where they were, just figured she'd be more comfortable indoors and out of the cold. "We can stay here," Sammy reassured her, allowing himself to get more comfortable on the ground by crossing his mile long legs infront of him. If only it had been this easy to talk to her back in high school.

As his hand moved the bare skin there felt empty, cold, not letting that show though Natalia simply pulled her arms together slightly, a more relaxed version of crossing them. His comment and eyebrow dance nearly did make her smile and maybe one side of her mouth did prop up into a very short and quick blink of half of a smile. But it probably wasn't that noticeable, not to someone who hardly knew you, or you them for that matter. At least she'd stopped crying, she just felt surprisingly empty not and at least Sam was a distraction from her thoughts.
"Are you sure? I don't want you to get hypothermia for Christmas." Natalia said a concerned look crossing across her face even though in reality she was probably the one to be concerned about. "We can walk if you want." Walk where though? Down the streets whilst other people stayed tucked up in bed with slippers on and a warm cup of hot chocolate in their hand.

It was a step- her hint of an attempt at allowing just the corners of her lips turn upwards, even if only one managed to minisculely do so. It was better than nothing, and for her he knew that was major progress. She'd never been too chirper, even in her younger years. Natalia didn't waste smiles on worthless things, she had better things to do. So keeping his smile firm on his lips, he encouraged her to just be herself, he'd stick beside her either way. Smirking at her words, Samuel was quick to return in a sarcastic tone, "It'd be a splendid gift, don't worry. I mean, I've only been asking Santa for years." Shaking his head at himself, he leaned forward some, resting his chin against his palms while his elbows dug into his knees. A more sympathetic mask washing over his face, he dropped his playful aura to become soft, his eyes large and filled with understanding as he spoke truthfully with the softest of smiles, "We can do whatever you want, little damsel. I'll sit out here with you for as long as you need me to or we can walk back to my house? I have hot chocolate and heat, we can hang out there until feel better without frosting over." The edge of his mouth peaked upwards as he watched her face, studying her reaction and praying that his offer was good enough. God, he was too kind for his own good.

"You know what I keep asking Santa? For Rose to grow out of her Disney stage... I don't think that's going to happen though." Natalia commented, idly picking at the bottom of her dress before stretching out her legs in front of her realizing that she'd been in a weird, squashed up position. Man, Sam was full of sweet smiles wasn't he, where did they all come from? Little damsel usually that sort of comment would have made Natalia but said the way it was, it was sweet and that was when she gave him a proper smile, it didn't last long but it met her eyes even for the briefest second.
"Won't your family say something to you about bring strays home?" Natalia asked after a moment, sobering up but now there was a bit of light back in her eyes, a bit of fire hidden there to warm her through the night.

"Theodore still marches around singing 'Eye of the Tiger' like a child whenever he is trying to accomplish something. Sorry to break it to you, but no matter how hard you wish, the madness won't end," Sam's words were filled to the rim with a teasing aura, but his face gave off the honest truth- he was serious. His brother wouldn't grow up, even in the roughest of situations he managed to be a complete baby and cause a ruckus. There were those rare moments where he'd mature and handle things like a man should, but more often than not he was a kid carrying a shot gun.
Not letting the thought of his family get him down, he turned his attention back to Natalia, his lips curling into a gentle smile as he studied her a bit more. Glancing from her lightening face to her bare shoulders, it took Sammy a whole of ten seconds to decide what he was going to do and say. Easing his tan coat off, he leaned over and draped it over Natalia's shoulders. His face held close enough to where he could feel her breath on his lips, but still far enough that their noses didn't dare to touch, he tucked the jacket into place and spoke softly as he kept his gaze on his hands, "My family can't say anything if they don't know you were there."
Even if one of them did happen to wake, any words they spat his way would be worth the time he'd get to spend with her.

"Siblings, 'ey?" Natalia said with a small shake of her head, Alex and Rose were both as mad as hatters, especially when they were together. Glancing up at the sky, Natalia wondered how her life would be if her family were not the family she had; it was safe to say that Natalia assumed it would be completely different. Maybe she wouldn't even know about the supernatural, let alone being one herself. Turning her attention back to Same Natalia waited in silence as she could sense him thinking through something.
Not sure what was happening at first, Rose let out a pleasant, "oh." Of surprise at what he'd done, warmth immediately coming to her arms again. Their faces were so close now and Natalia's green eyes flicked up to look at Sam's as his gaze was on his hands. The heat of his body was everywhere, charging the air like electricity. "Then let's get going off of the cold road, did you want to use my car or is it not that far?" Natalia offered, wanting to get going now.
This was the closest she'd been with someone who wasn't her family in months.

"Siblings," the man spoke jokingly in return, leaning away further to give her some space. Biting his lip, he couldn't meet her gaze, another tint of red coating his cheeks- and once again he was glad she couldn't see it. Glancing at the jacket around her body, he thought her words over, clearly troubled by how to respond. His house wasn't too far, maybe ten minutes from here or so, but then again he didn't want to just leave her car. Not to mention if something broke down at his house, she could make a quicker escape with her vehicle parked in the driveway.
Seemingly have decided, Sam gave her a soft nod and finally met her gaze, his hands resting in his lap as he replied, "Car would be quicker, and easier." He left it at that, not wanting to bore her with a number of reasons. Casting a gentle smile her way, he took a moment to look over her face once more before inhaling sharply and placing his palms to the concrete. Pushing himself up, Sam found his footing, towering over the seated girl as he patted the dirt off of his pants. Once he was dusted off, he held out his hand to her, offering her help up- though he wouldn't be shocked if she neglected it. Natalia was notorious for helping herself, other people irrelevant to her, but still, he kept his limb reaching out for her.
Then a thought hit him as his gaze drifted downward, his eyebrows drawing together as he asked, "Do you plan on wearing that dress all night, though?" It seemed awkward and uncomfortable more than anything.

"Car it is then." Natalia said with a small nod. Eyeing him up as he stood, Natalia had forgotten how tall Sam was, maybe he'd even grown some more, it wouldn't have been a massive surprise to her. Almost tempted by the hand, Natalia just curled his fingers back into his palm before pushing herself up. Eyes giving him a small thank you for the thought of the gesture before she listened to him speak again. Ah, she'd forgotten about her attire and now that she thought of it the stiffness of the material seemed to settle over her.
Rubbing a hand through a strand of her hair, Natalia sighed, it would be pointless to go back home to change but the dress wasn't exactly comfortable. "Um, no, not really. Not much I can do now though, I'll survive." Surviving seemed to be all Natalia was doing these days, scraping through the days, cowering from things which a year ago she would have been thrilled by. Time changed everything.
