Hospitals. Alina absolutely hated them. They were cold and clammy, and the concept of privacy was basically thrown out of the window. They were also the only place outside of her home where anyone saw her without her wig. The nurses and doctors all knew her secret, and she couldn't stand it. Not to mention the fact that chemotherapy sucked completely. Whenever she had to go to the hospital for whatever reason, she was always itching to get out of there as fast as she possibly could. So when the doctor finally came in and told her that she was cleared to go, it was no surprise that Alina raced out like her life depended on it.
Her phone had been blowing up asking where she was and why she hadn't been at school, but Alina was strategically ignoring them in hopes that they would all just stop asking. That way she wouldn't have to come up with a lie. Finally, after about the millionth time her phone had buzzed in her pocket, she pulled it out and responded to one of her friends saying that she had come down with a cold. It was close enough to the truth, right? Unfortunately, in the process of texting, someone had walked into her. "Jeez, watch where you're going!" she said before she could stop herself. She wasn't usually that hostile, but today wasn't the best of days. "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to be so rude." She sighed with frustration, just wanting the day to be over.

In Blake's opinion, the amount of times he'd spent going in and out of hospital these past few weeks were too damn high. If it wasn't for radiotherapy, it was for a check up because of the car accident, or sometimes even just because some new symptom reared it's ugly head and his mum panicked so much that he was sent to see his doctor almost immediately, and today was no exception. Apparently, last night he'd lost consciousness and managed to practically flail around on the floor, arms twitching before somehow managing to wet himself, and only then actually coming round, his mum practically on the verge of calling an ambulance. Ah, the joys of cancer. He'd managed to persuade his mum to leave it until the morning, but she point blank refused to wait until after school, which simply meant he had to lie to everyone at school... Again. Still, the appointment hadn't taken quite as long as he thought, and eventually they'd decided to just put him on anti-seizure medication and hope it didn't happen again. So, basically, Blake just had more pills to take. How fun.
He was on his way home when he walked straight into someone else, thoughts trying to decide exactly what he was going to tell Braydon (something told him 'I pissed myself last night because I'm fucking useless and can't control my own body' wasn't going to be suitable) clearly filling his mind to the point where was wasn't actually paying any attention to where he was going, movements basically automatic. "I would say the same to you, but I'm just as bad as texting and walking, so I guess I'll just have to let you off," he replied to the girl, despite the fact she was horribly rude. Blake might not be in a great mood himself (doctor's tended to do that to a guy), but he wasn't about to snap at someone random for it. What had she ever done to him, anyway?

Alina nodded. "Yeah," she said, then stood there awkwardly for a moment. Should she just leave? No, that would have been rude. Then again, it wasn't like she hadn't already written herself off as a total bitch to this boy, so what did it matter? But she felt as if she needed to prove that she wasn't actually that rude of a person to him. Her thoughts were cut off by her phone buzzing again, and she groaned before just shutting her phone off completely. "It's been ringing non=stop for about three hours now," she explained to him. Alina thought that maybe she should be more grateful that she had that many people concerned about her, but with a secret like hers, people worrying about her was the worst possibility.
Just then, Alina realized that she still had the plastic white wristband from the hospital on her. Usually she took it off before she even got out of the building, but today she had forgotten. Alina quickly shoved her hand into the pocket of her jeans, hoping it might hide the wristband until she could get home to cut it off.

Gaze flickering to her wrist as she shoved her hand in her pocket, Blake was quick to notice the little white band on her wrist, not that he planned on saying anything about it. He was fairly sure most people wouldn't have noticed, but he figured it was probably a circumstantial, you tended to be more aware of the things you'd experienced occurring in other people, mainly because you spent half your time looking for it without realising. Still, he decided to definitely not say anything at all, as he was fairly sure that he wouldn't want it mentioned either. Whatever was going on, it wasn't his business, right? Grinning it her, he pulled his phone out of his pocket, flashing the screen up so she could look at it, showing the texts he'd gotten from people (mainly at school, some may or may not have been fellow stoners that were skiving school for their own, personal reasons. The top one was from his mum, and asked something about how long he had left at the hospital, or something like that, he hadn't actually checked yet.
"I just kind of let them build up and then lie and say my phone was dead," he replied with a shrug, "that way I don't have to text or ring anyone unless it's actually important." He offered her a small smile, slipping the phone back into his pocket as he pulled, almost nervously, at the edges of his beanie, something that had become almost automatic to do when he got nervous. Honestly, he wasn't even sure why he was nervous - it's not like he'd never met someone new before, right?

Alina nodded. "That's a good plan," she said. "I just try to ignore it and hope that no one will question me." Alina felt extremely awkward, which was odd for her. She was usually the girl who practically oozed confidence. But after her little outburst before, she felt uncomfortable in her own skin. But he didn't seem exactly content either, judging by his pulling at his hat. "Um, I'm Alina, by the way," she said. "You go to Beacon Hills High?" He seemed about her age, maybe a little older, so it was safe to assume that he was still in high school.

"Yeah," Blake replied quickly, admittedly kind of glad to have the topic changed. He already vaguely knew who she was, as weird as that sounded. The thing was that she'd always seemed like one of the know it all, too pretty to talk to, perfect types of people - the exact type that Blake had a lot of trouble even getting up the nerve to talk to. Sure, he wasn't exactly in with the 'unpopular' crowd and, if anything, that fact Braydon was on the lacrosse team (even if he was bullied a bit), had only elevated his reputation as somewhat of a joker, and he'd never exactly fallen out with any of them (unless you count the issue with hammerhead the shark, which Blake still tried to insist didn't happen). Still, Alina seemed more like the type to get her head down and work, whilst the only work Blake could imagine doing was trying to persuade Braydon to stay up and watch interviews with Bradley Cooper on voicing Rocket. "I'm Blake - Blake Wilde." Honestly, he was a little surprised she hadn't at least heard the rumors about him by now, whether it was about drugs, car accidents, or his possible, very much real relationship with a certain lacrosse player. Still, he wasn't about to bring any of that up, quickly extending his hand (white band still attached, Blake was too lazy to pull it off), for her to shake.

Alina recognized his name, even if she'd never actually met him before. "Oh, you're the one who got in that car accident with Mason Miller," she said, remembering. She reached her hand out to shake his, and she noticed his wristband. Suddenly she became much more interested in the boy, considering the fact that he had obviously been at the hospital recently, just as she had. She had heard more about him, but bring up the fact that she'd heard about him doing drugs or being in a relationship with Braydon Anderson didn't seem like the best way to make up for her rudeness earlier.
"You're okay now though, right?" she asked. He seemed physically okay. No casts, no slings. But why, then, had he been at the hospital. It was probably just for a check-up or something, but Alina couldn't help but be curious.

"Yeah, that's me," Blake replied, flashing her his signature cheeky smile, honestly just glad that, out of the three rumors going round, she'd chosen that one to bring up. He figured she was probably just trying to explain away the wristband, but her expression betrayed that she was, admittedly, a little bit confused by it all. After all, he and Mason had been discharged a while ago, and neither of them had any real reason to stay long enough to be wrist banded, even if they did have to go in just to check that the doctor's hadn't actually missed something the first time round. He continued to smile as she asked the second question, already having what was basically an armada of excuses at the ready - he'd been getting good at lying about hospital trips.
"I have an aneurysm," he explained with a shrug, deciding he may as well tell the truth about something, even if it just wasn't the reason he was in today, "turns out blunt impacts to the head, mixed with drugs that weaken blood vessels, can cause them, crazy, right?" he rolled his eyes before continuing, "they're not yet entirely convinced that I don't need surgery, but they're also shit scared that there'll be complications." He shrugged his shoulders, figuring that'd (hopefully) explain away any doubt she had about the hospital visit, as most of it was actually true, as long as you replaced the word aneurysm with cancer. Admittedly, he was half tempted to ask why she was there too, but a gut feeling told him that it was a bad idea, especially since she'd been so eager to hide it. Besides, they weren't even friends, and he really didn't want to be rude.

Alina nodded. "I see," she said. "They're always really hesitant about surgeries like that. They usually have to call in some kind of specialist or something." Alina remembered what a big deal it was when she had to have a bone marrow transplant a few years ago. They told her that she was lucky to have her sister as a match, but they still stressed for weeks about whether or not it would work. Luckily, it did, for a little while at least. "But I hope everything works out okay." Alina wondered is spouting out her knowledge of how medical people are had given her away, but if anything she would just make something up about someone she knew that had been in the position that was actually hers. That's what she always did when she slipped up.

"Yeah, Dr Denver specializes in the brain, but he's determined that if they do it, I'll end up with brain damage on my parietal lobe or something - I don't even know where or what the hell that is," Blake replied, knowing that Alina probably didn't care, and yet he was telling her anyway. It felt nice to once actually talk about it to someone other than Braydon or his mum, as they both just ended up worrying and, for some reason, managed to come to the conclusion that he was probably going to die... They weren't exactly the happiest people to talk to. Besides, she seemed to know what she was talking about, which was a first; most people had no idea what the inside of the hospital looked like, never mind what the doctor's actually did.

Alina wasn't completely sure what Blake was talking about, considering she had blood cancer, so she didn't know much about the brain. Not to mention the fact that she tried to act like she was perfectly healthy all the time. But she liked talking to Blake. There weren't many people in Beacon Hills that knew what it was like to be a teenager with severe health issues. "Yeah, they never do a very good job at explaining things to the patients or the families," she said. "My best friend's little sister had cancer, and I went with them to most of her appointments. Most of us never had much of a clue what was going on. We all just hoped it would fix things." Of course, she wasn't actually talking about her best friend's little sister, but no one needed to know that.

Bang. There was the word. Cancer. It was like a punch to the gut, even if she wasn't specifically talking about his case. Hell, she didn't even know he had it, so how could she judge? And yet he couldn't help but cringe at the word, doing his best to not react, knowing that his smile flickered slightly, even if he managed to keep it in tact for the most part. It was like when a friend told you something you shouldn't know, and it somehow managed to come up in conversation, leaving you basically mute as you tried not to just blurt all the things you knew, as it kind of felt like the burden of knowing them was actually not worth it. "Cancer, huh?" he asked, "sounds like shit, what type?" there was a pause, before he quickly added, "I mean, you don't have to talk about it, I just - I'm nosy." He grinned at her lightly, slowly realising that they were still stood in the middle of the street, talking. Surely it'd make more sense to go somewhere like a cafe and talk, but he didn't want to be the one to suggest it, mainly just because he didn't want to come across overly friendly.

Alina nodded. "No, it's fine," she said. It was okay as long as they didn't think she was actually talking about herself. "She had chronic leukemia. She's had it on and off for a few years now." It seemed a little off to be talking in the middle of the street, but where else were they supposed to go? Their conversation surely wouldn't last much longer, would it? Alina really didn't mind either way. This guy seemed really nice, despite all of the terrible rumors going around about him. You'd think that someone like Alina would learn not to judge people off of what other people told her, considering she'd had some pretty nasty rumors about herself over the years.
